5.0 out of 5 stars hmm Emerson.... 14 Mar. 2014

I read once that Emerson set the style for writers from the United States. He writes in a simple and elegant poetic style that was something like a music in my mind after having read a bunch of Europeans from his era and before. His essay on politics in particular should be a must read before you cast your vote!
2.0 out of 5 stars A classic, in classical language 3 April 2013

These were some of my grandfather's favorites, and I have found some golden nuggets here that I share with friends. BUT, the language is that of 19th century writers and is very difficult to handle. It assumes a knowledge of Latin, Greek, and the classics that any 19th century scholar would have. It's a hard read.

Love it....Love it! I have been trying to find the book, but I guess an electronic copy works better since I will forever own it on my kindle!
4.0 out of 5 stars Essays - Second Series 20 Jan. 2013
By Thomas Lavelle - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
More Emerson. One set of essays is enough for casual readers to get the gist of RWE, but "Nature" is often seen as his greatest hit, and "The Poets" speaks to the role of creativity in the Transcendental project.
