I have read this book, a serious account of an extraordinary phenomenon. Now I am waiting for a more up-to-date book, an even better book! Esperanto: Language, Literature and Community does not deal with the recent developments of Esperanto litterature and does not mention Esperanto youth culture (like rock music) at all. But this is certainly the best book in English, so far! The English language edition of Pierre Janton's book is the most useful starting point for anyone with a serious interest in Esperanto and the linguistic and cultural phenomena related to the language. Humphrey Tonkin's references and notes give advice for further study. A book for every university library (and every Esperanto student's bookshelf in addition to an Esperanto text book and dictionary)!
