Product Description

Product Description

Eskrima, which is also known as Arnis [De Mano] or Kali, is the indigenous martial art of the Philippine Islands. Dynamic and flexible, with a wide range of training methods it can be practised by students of all ages and levels of fitness. Well known and respected as a highly practical weapons-based system, Eskrima is practised worldwide by civilians, law enforcement personnel and special units within the military. Eskrima uses training weapons [rattan sticks and daggers] from the earliest stages, alongside purely unarmed techniques. These training methods have been found particularly effective at increasing co-ordination and reflexes, providing a fast tract to developing the qualities needed for practical self-defence.

About the Author

Krishna Godhania has more than twenty-seven years' experience of the martial arts, and has spent the past eighteen years studying Eskrima in the Philippines. He has an international reputation for being one of the leading teachers of the Filipino martial arts, conducts seminars in many countries, and is the Eskrima technical editor and columnist for Martial Arts Illustrated magazine. Krishna currently heads the Institute of Filipino Martial Arts, an organization dedicated to the propagation and promotion of Eskrima-Kali-Arnis. Resident - Warwickshire

Format:Paperback
The beauty of the book is it teaches very practical techniques with their underlying concepts, so it's not necessary to memorise hundreds of variations. I would say "It reaches the parts that other eskrima books do not reach" in the chapters on projectiles, sibat, flexible weapons together with an in-depth study of knife defence and likely attacks. The comprehensive treatment surpasses anything else I have read on the subject of weaponry and self-defence. Destined to become a classic text.

Excellent Book 28 April 2011
Format:Paperback
Books will never teach you a martial art easily, you still have to work for it but this was brillantly setup with easy to understand writing but more importantly (seen many martial art books that just have text upon text but dont have enough pictures) the picture usage is spot on.
