Although Gaylor could greatly improve this book by adding colour photographs of the badges (I suspect this may have something to do with getting them all in one place again) it remains an informative, entertaining and valuable resource.
There is a military badge 'bible' known as Kipling&King which, although authoratative and superior in presentation, lacks readability and is very sterile. Gaylor's book is an interesting read - even for people who don't collect cap badges - and is [...] cheaper than the two K&K books!
I only wish he could do more on "Order of Precedence" and a bit more history on some of the more rare battalions. Nonetheless, it's the first book I reach for when out shopping for badges!
I would love to hear from any other collectors out there: maybe even from J.G. himself ? I have loads of suggestions for the 7th Edition !

A very informative book that gives excellent details on variations to standard cap badges. This is an invaluable aid to spotting those badges that are less than 100% genuine.
The pictures are excellent and help to identify any variations in die used to cast the badges, coupled with excellent descriptions of the badge designs and regimental histories.
