Book Description

1 Sep 2008 H.I.V.E
Pupils and staff at HIVE are horrified to discover that Dr Nero has been captured by the forces of HOPE, the Hostile Operative Prosecution Executive, the world's newest and most ruthlessly efficient security force. Three months pass without any news of his fate, and Number One has decided to appoint a sinister new headmistress for the school, somebody that the pupils and staff had thought that they'd seen the last of. Meanwhile Otto is also struggling to cope with new abilities that are starting to manifest themselves; can he really be unconsciously interfacing with computers without physical contact? And if he is, what exactly do these new powers really mean? The only way to find Nero and the truth behind the lies is to escape HIVE. Otto must get out, and take the risks which come with being a rogue agent. Then he just has to break into MI6.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ending a little far fetched 23 Jan 2009
This is the third book in this series and both myself and my 8 year old son have enjoyed reading them. Both of us enjoyed the way the book unravels slowly revealing details in one scene and then leaving you in suspense whilst returning to another situation describe earlier in the chapter. This book like the other two is very well written and leaves you wanting to read more after each chapter. The ending for me was a little far fetched however this certainly wouldn't stop me recommending the series to other children. We started the series when my son was 7 and he had had no problems following it. My 6 year old however is not interested preferring the secret there's a blast from the past!

5.0 out of 5 stars Escape Velocity 9 Dec 2009
This book is the third in an incredible series, and in my opinion, one of the best yet. It has a lot of action and revelations that will make you want to read faster and faster, and if you are like me, read it again and again. If you are not sure if you want to buy it, here are some details: this book was well planned for because the events in the previous books hinted what would be the main epiphany in this book. Make sure you read the first two, H.I.V.E. and The Overlord Protocol first. The series, as a whole, is about the adventures of Otto Malpense and his friends Wing, Laura, and Shelby. They are enrolled in a secret facility on an island called H.I.V.E., or the Higher Institute for Villainous Education. This school accepts the most (criminally) 'gifted' kids in the world. They are taught the secrets of the art of evil so that when they grow up, they will eventually become some of the world's most infamous leaders (or dictators). If you have already read this series, here is something that will not spoil anything but will add to your curiosity about this book. Escape Velocity reveals a lot about Otto's past. And it is almost definately not what you would think. Otto also changes in ways that even he does not understand. All in all, this book has secrets that you have been wondering about and a lot of information that leads to the next book, Dreadnought, and eventually Rogue, which is coming out May 3rd 2009 at this point. This is a series that you are not likely to forget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 12 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Book three of the excellent HIVE series is another adrenaline fuelled page turner from the superb Mark Walden.

A new order has been established called HOPE that is attempting to bring about the demise of GLOVE. War has been declared on all wrongdoers in an attempt to bring peace to the world.

However, all is not as it seems as the two institutions go up against each other.

Featuring explosive set-pieces, treachery, revelations, humour, death and plenty of action Mark Walden has again created another fun romp that can be enjoyed by children and adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking 29 Nov 2010

I actually brought the Hive books for my son to try and encourage his reading. However I could not resist taking a sneak peak and was hooked. Great read fast paced, humorous and fun. When I can finally prise my son away from the PS3 I know he will thoroughly enjoy them as he did with the Alex Rider series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series. Great book. 21 Mar 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you read this series from the beginning you won't regret it. Each book keeps getting better and better. The series as a whole is amazing, fantastic world that has been created by Mr Walden. Each book as an individual however complement each other some are fantastic. Some aren't as good but still great.

This book was one of the good ones. I would recommend reading from book one though so that you understand what's going on. Basically, Nero the head of H.I.V.E is kidnapped by a secret government organisation called H.O.P.E. There aim is to show the world who and what Nero and his companions are. You join Otto and the gang three months after the kidnapping. Nobody has heard anything from Nero or Raven. Otto himself is trying to come to terms with being able to interface with computers. The school gains a new headmistress, an old enemy! On top of all this they are trying to find Nero.

This book is full of twists and turns. All made complete by the characters we've all come to love. Still containing the small flashings of humour that help this book to be great. Oh and the ending, how could I not mention the ending! Epic is all I'm saying. You get to learn things in this book that I'm sure you've been wondering from the beginning. Things about Number One and Otto and other characters.

This book is as good as any of the others. This series is among the best. Read it.
