Forget the averaged four-star rating. This results mostly from older reviews of the DVD. To me it also does not make sense to rate the US-Version here (although it is fair to make the people aware of it), because this is simply not the actual product that is to be reviewed at this place. And, BTW, 99% of the customers would not be able to view the US-version anyway, because almost no-one owns a multi-region (or region A-locked) BluRay player here within the EU.
In short: The story is a typical action flick from the 80s, starring Kurt Russell, and directed by John Carpenter. Not a masterpiece, but entertaining.
Frankly said, the BluRay is not even a bad joke, but pure fraud, and obviously nothing more than a (lousy executed) upscale from a DVD master. O.k., "Escape" is not an absolute classic, but it is also definitively not a obscure niche product, and I guess Optimum consider themselves a serious company, so it is simply not tolerable to sell this movie in such form.
Optimum/Studio Canal should simply take this crap off the market, stop ruining their reputation as a label. I for myself will in the future think twice if I should trust a Optimum release enough to buy it.
