Excellent 4 Aug 2002
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
This is the most realistic Holocaust movie I have seen. It is an incredible movie and the story will grip you. From the start of the movie it shows everyday life for the inmates in the Sobibor death camp, most are immediately killed upon arrival but the strong men and women are kept to work for the Nazis and Ukranian guards, you are kept usually if you have a skill the Nazis want. Throughout the film the skilled Jews get together to plan an escape but they have no knowledge of military and they have never killed anybody ,thats when the help comes from a Russian P.O.W. who is sent to the camp. Together with his military experience and the knowledge of the camp from the Jews they plan there escape and execute it by killing numerous SS and Ukranian guards, in time intervals. This is a true story.

Absolutely amazing 6 Sep 2004
Format:VHS Tape
I first saw this movie, when it was screened on British television. At that time, I was an impressionable teenager, who didn't know much about the Holocaust or what really happened in the death camps. The performances by Alan Arkin, Rutger Hauer, Joanna Pacula et al, were compelling and had me on edge for the entire movie. I again saw Escape from Sobibor, purely by chance, in October 1995. Little did I realise, that I was actually viewing it again on the 50th anniversary of the revolt. What the Jewish prisoners, and all those who escaped, went through, to gain freedom, was amazing. This movie will have you on edge the entire time.

Escape from sobibor 6 Feb 2004
By A Customer
Format:DVD
This film shows what life must have been like in a death camp rather than a concentration camp. Here people, both guards and inmates, worked in a space devoted entirely to the implementation of the final solution - remember this camp was one of five set up purely for this reason. The day to day lives of the inmates is captured perfectley but also the film gives an insight into the lives of the camp staff. In one scene, for example, the guards have a heated discussion about the camp and their specific role in its running. Some are clearly concerned about the morality of their actions. Historically, this is absoultely accurate. There were good and bad people on all sides. Its good to see an attempt at looking at day to day events of life in a death camp rather than just on the main issues of the holocaust.
