I first saw this movie, when it was screened on British television. At that time, I was an impressionable teenager, who didn't know much about the Holocaust or what really happened in the death camps. The performances by Alan Arkin, Rutger Hauer, Joanna Pacula et al, were compelling and had me on edge for the entire movie. I again saw Escape from Sobibor, purely by chance, in October 1995. Little did I realise, that I was actually viewing it again on the 50th anniversary of the revolt. What the Jewish prisoners, and all those who escaped, went through, to gain freedom, was amazing. This movie will have you on edge the entire time.
