Levi is a good student. Never gets in trouble and seems to be the perfect student. This shocks him when he is sent to detention as soon as he arrives at school! He meets the detention teacher, Mr. A. Lien who refuses to listen to his plea of innocence and sends him to spend detention with the rest. There he meets his best friend and their bookworm classmate. They find out that they are there all in detention for made up reasons. What's even more interesting is the fact that all students who have had detention were never seen again! Levi with his friends set out to solve this mystery and discover an answer which freaks them out.
I am an adult but I liked this kid's novel (4th-9th grade level). The story was well told, the writing concise, great cover art, and had an unexpected twist at the end which I didn't expect. I found it fun and even laughed a few times remembering my own youth. I do feel that the dialogue was a little too mature for supposed age level of the students and that kind of distracted me a little. I'm not sure if the author has a series in mind following this up but if they did I think this would be a great start to one. As a standalone book it's worth a read for youth.
