What an epic 23 Oct 2010
What an epic is right. This is one of those mid ninety's anime epic's released around the same time as Evangelion and Robotech. For synopsis see product desciption, the animation is as expected of the time but has a lot of special effects that would be more at home in some more modern anime's.But do not let that put you off this is still an epic of an anime which has a mix of romance science fiction and good to honest action. If you like old school anime, this is one for you.

Only recommend the buy for a true fan of the series (such as myself) that can't come across another alternative.

A disapoiting edition.. Ugly cover (seems as if it was printed from a regular inkjet printer), with terrible ilustrations... The DVDs themselves dont look very good.. Terrible production value...

The image quality... is watchable for a fan, but.. an ugly sight.. plus, the english subtitles don't match the english dubbing...

Nonetheless the only edition I could find for this great anime...And it ain't all that expensive...

If you're just browsing, browse along.... If you like it and are thinking of buying it, consider yourself warned...

Escaflowne is an interesting story, but comes across as a little dated for people newer to Anime. I'd still recommend it, and with tracks from Yoko Kanno (also worked on Cowboy Bebop) there is a lot of good things in this series. The story centres around love as a main theme, but considering it has cat poeple and giant fighting robots it is well balanced in terms of content.

The box set is pretty sparse though, just a few dvds, with terrible menus. It also isn't the best of quality when watched on a HD TV, it clearly has not been remastered or touched up in any way. I don't know if it is possible to get a better quality copy anyway, so don't let this put you off if you want to have the entire series.

Really perfect story!
If you want to remember pure love, please check it.
