What a wonderfully romantic album this is. The two singers began their friendship in Salzburg singing together while the 12 year old Angelika was a chorister while the elder (by 10 years) Barbara enjoyed the soloist limelight of the concerts.
Many years on, after both had established themselves as soloists while retaining their friendship, this album First Encounter is a culmination of their desire to work together and Barbara's long research of German romantic duets.
It's not mainstream classical, songs by Mendelssohn and his sister Fanny, Robert Schumann, Brahms and Dvorak are not their most well known works, but it is pure and simple romantic duet singing which is intimately intertwined with piano accompaniment.
