"This cleverly crafted tale will reassure the most timid of children, with glorious, amusing illustrations to enchant those not yet able to read the text independently."-Books For Keeps "This is a warm and sensitive story with lovely illustrations dealing with the timeless problem of self confidence. The six and seven year olds with whom I read it, really enjoyed it and talked readily about how unkind it is to make fun of others."- Carousel "This is a very sweet book with adorable illustrations and a great moral." - [Staff Picks] Inkwood Books "Great book for pointing out we all have talents."-The Goddess of YA Literature "Young readers will love this story of a misunderstood elephant in search of a talent for the Acacia Tree School talent show. While juggling and dancing don't quite work for the clumsy elephant, Errol is assured that everyone has a talent. Errol soon realizes that his own trunk is just what he needs: with it, he can pick up objects, snorkel, and create a sound and light show! The competition is fierce: a colorful chameleon duet, a meerkat orchestra, and a disappearing zebra! Read on to find out just how extraordinary Errol really is!"- Hooray for Books! "This is a very good book because it is entertaining to little kids while teaching them important lessons. I think this book is best fit for first grade and under. It teachers that everyone has a talent and that everyone is unique."-CSLE "The talent show is coming up and everyone has a talent...except for Errol. Errol is an elephant who is thought of as clumsy and strange because of his nose. Then his dad gives him a book about elephants and Errol learns about all of the wonderful things he can do with his nose! In the end, Errol shocks everyone at the talent show with all of his wonderful new trunk "tricks". Later, while showing his new friends the book his father gave him, they learn that the best talent is making friends. I highly suggest this book as a read aloud. It is large in size with big, bright, colourful illustrations. I also love the language in the book. Conway is not afraid of using the powerful adjectives he wants to use to tell his story. Also, the animals are not your standard fare: there is a meercat, an anaconda, and a tortoise. All of this adds up to an entertaining, humorous story that also introduces new vocabulary and experiences. I think this will be a hit with pre-schoolers!"-LibraryThing "This delightful read encourages self-esteem and confidence!"- Manukau City Council "This lovely simple story will inspire confidence in young readers."-National Library of New Zealand "I really like the lesson contained in Errol and His Extraordinary Nose. As teachers, we want all of our students to feel good about themselves. One of our jobs is to help each student discover their own talents and realize that they are indeed special. I like that Errol gives a great effort even though he doesn't experience much success in the beginning. My students enjoyed reading this book and afterward we placed events from the story into beginning, middle, and end categories on the SmartBoard and worked on being able to retell a story. This book would also be a good text for demonstrating how characters can change over the course of a book."-NT Teacher Stuff Blog
