ERPLAND (originally a double LP) is the Ozric Tentacles' first CD proper and sets the tone for the records that follow.Let the wizard lead you throughout these uncharted lands, across the rainbow-splashed peninsula on the cover, as you bask in the radioactive glow of "Eternal Wheel", tumbling to and fro on a river of bubbling sequencers and cybertronic guitars. Prepare yourself for the mental journeys across inner space and "Mysticum Arabicola", where tablas pound out the future sounds of India, while above, our alien ancestors descend to reclaim the planet that was once their own, their starship's lights shimmering and boosters blasting the approaching earth into obsidian. This is music of colours, energy, and vitality; impeccably produced and extremely well executed. It would be a high crime to not enjoy the galloping sequencers, outerreach electronics, coruscating guitar lines, and enthralling percussion of the Ozrics on anything but the best that high fidelity has to offer.

Instrumental psychedlic rock, amazing guitar solos, layers of synths, eastern touches. One of only two bands who I have followed from their start (cassettes and bootlegs)and still follow today and have to have everything I can find. This is one of their earliest releases on CD and it's still possibly the best.

We first used to listen to this on my mate's Alpine stereo on quiet summer nights out in the Wiltshire countryside, lying in the grass with the doors open. Cassettes were all you could get to start with, but the sound was and still is unbeatable. Although their music does vary over time they still remain an exceptional group and the music, though not easy to define, is always surprising, tight and chock full of atmosphere. Pungent Effulgent was the first that we listened to, though I think Erpland may have been the first on CD, and as a follow on from Pungent, it was stunning at the time and still gets played regularly and often 2 times in a row.
