Transvision Vamp had the commercial success, the Primitives had the critical acclaim but the Darling Buds remain my favourite neo-Blondie band of the late 80s. And while many bands so rarely seem to surpass their first album, this, the last of the Buds' three studio albums is, for me, their best. The debut Pop Said was pure (indie)-pop, great if a tad repetitive, the next Crawdaddy had a dance tinge not to my tastes, but with this album they really hit the heights of greatness. Fuzzy guitars, dreamy vocals, touching lyrics, no sales. Such is the way of the world.
