Book Description

5 Jun 2003
In a world of socially enforced liberation and independence the sexually submissive woman often feels maligned and misunderstood because of her brand of sexuality. While much attention has been given to what sexually submissive men need from dominant women, the sexually submissive woman's needs have been overlooked. Written by a sex worker with experience of both sides of the coin, readers are guided on their way to feeling more comfortable in their sexual skin, secure in the knowledge that many other women share their submissive fantasies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative, but very gentle 28 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Written by a switch, this is an incredibly sensible and sensitive introduction to the world of female submission. It is much more romantic than The New Bottoming Book, and is aimed specifically at women (in a monogamous relationship). This book will give you all the reassurance you will ever need that you are allowed submissive tendencies. It's perhaps a little lovey-dovey in the Sex Magick sense, but who cares? With sections on everything from exploring your submissive persona, to role-play, exploring your 'rosebud', a lesson on how to give a great strip tease, shoes, how to be a human ashtray without burning yourself, instructions on how to shave your bits without causing nasty rashes, and a whole load more. It is a great guide to what's out there; it's up to you what you do with the information once you've got it. None of the info is a revelation in itself, but it's rare to find it all in one book. Even if you're not really into S&M, it's worth reading it for the confidence about your sensuality that it instils and the advice on making your fantasies become a reality. I've seen this book for over £price in the shops, but it's worth that, so you're getting a good deal on Amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars spankingly good 21 Mar 2008
Format:Paperback
As a newcomer to this scene, i really enjoyed reading this book and found it informative and interesting. My only complaints are that it does not explore some of the complications of handling a BDSM relationship and some of the descriptions of her own experiences seemed smug - i was left thinking 'okay, okay, so you're in the most amazing relationship ever, good for you, now shut up about it!'. i would have liked to have read more about BDSM from a feminist perspective as it can be a hard pill to swallow if you are a confident, successful woman who thrives on being submissive. Overall though, a good book for anyone interested in leaning about the subject. Quite horny at times too!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok - but nothing special 27 May 2009
By rackle
Format:Paperback
A fair (but by no means great) book for anyone interested in pursuing BDSM, particularly if approaching it from the point of view as a submissive.

There is a fairly good amount of information in this book, and it is written in a way to encourage and welcome any reader that is curious but inexperienced in the realm of kink. The author covers many different aspects of approaching kink from new.

However, there is something I really have to point out about this book: my my how the author loves the sound of her own voice! Not only does she wax lyrical about her own experiences (to a nauseating level) but she also includes samples of her own poetry and own prose to set the scenes. She quotes her own other books in the recommended further reading too - very modest (not)! These seemed far from erotic to me as they were just overly gushing and damn well off-putting.

An ok-ish read for anyone contemplating BDSM from the perspective of a sub, but there have to be better starting points than this. I'd recommend missing this and going for something else like "Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns" by Miller & Devon instead.

This book is a very informative and helpful guide for anyone who's making their first tentative steps into the world of S&M. Varrin takes you through step by step, with techniques described and ideas listed.
I found it informative and interesting but, to be brutal, a complete turn-off sexually. I don't know what I was expecting, but something about it left me cold and not really wanting to try for myself. Perhaps I'm just not a very submissive woman.
Varrin is a likeable narrator, if a little given to romanticising. I found the book almost as interesting for the description of here relationship with her 'master' as I did for the sex tips.

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst BDSM book I have ever bought 22 Aug 2009
By A. GOOD
Format:Paperback
I say bought and not read as I simply could not bring myself to finish the book...and that is rare for me. The book seemes almost patronising in its delivery of BDSM, so possibly it is intended for a novice audience. I felt the suggested scenarios made for a far too contrived type situation that reeked of acting and props as opposed to concentrating on the psychological dynamic. There are many other books that discuss the sub/dom relationship much more effectively. I would not even recommend this as a manual for a curious submissive, rather it seems better suited for those that are looking to spice up their vanilla sex lives.
