This is a copious collection of illustrations of artefacts from the Berlin museum, comprising mostly drawings and paintings but with some illustrations of sculptures, and drawn from the whole history of its subject up to the middle of the twentieth century. It is particularly well furnished with material from the Far East, but its provision of graphic arts from Germany in the Inter-War years is truly magnificent, giving vivid testament to the 'decadence' of that period which matches that found in other popular art forms. The book is superbly well produced, and is a valuable testament to the influence and pervasiveness of the erotic arts, and the text by Dopp amply reinforces his reputation as a major interpreter of these seminal contributions to human endeavour. It's a large book, suited to occasional browsing for entertainment, as well as an authoritative statement of its subject. An excellent production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible book, highly recommended! 20 Jun 2009
By Templar - Published on Amazon.com
This is a big, beautiful catalog of the art and artifacts found in the Erotic Museum in Berlin, Germany. It has crisp, full-color photographs of thousands of items from this premier collection, including paintings, illustrations, engravings, artifacts, sculpture, decorative arts, and many other objects - all with a sexual or erotic theme. Some of these are famous and recognizable, but most are unique and unlike anything you have ever seen before. Every photo has a caption describing the piece, and the accompanying text (by world-renowned expert and collector, Hans-Jürgen Döpp) discusses the history and development of this important genre.
A note of warning, this book contains explicit sexual imagery, much of it unusual and unconventional, so if you are easily shocked (and don't like being shocked!) then this is not for you. It would make a fine coffee-table book (if there are no children in your household) and an excellent conversation piece if you have open-minded visitors. But most of all, this book is absolutely essential for collectors or connoisseurs of erotica. Your library is incomplete without it!
5.0 out of 5 stars Erotica as art 31 Jan 2002

This is an exellent book if You are interested in erotic art from (mostly) the last century. There are not so many books about the art in erotica. Here You have a chance to see some of the mayor artists work. For example Hans Pellars "Verliebte Flamingo" and Jean Morisots portfolio of 12 prints. I find it a very good reference book for the afficionados and collectors of exclusive erotica. I am looking forward to Mr Döpps next books!
