I have just finished Erosion and I loved it. The writing is subtle and powerful, full of vivid imagery all of which underpins the suspense and creates memorable and unexpected characters. Many books are described as surprising, but few are as surprising as Hemmings's. If you were to hear the plot twists before reading the book you would say no, that can't be so, but Hemmings makes it darkly, memorably and persuasively so. She makes the unbelievable believable. I metaphorically held my breath during the final few chapters of the book, and only let it out again when I had finally, fully experienced the extraordinary ending. Read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars So engrossing, you forget to breathe 23 Oct 2014
Format:Paperback
A novel you can't put down. One that grabs you so tight by the throat that you forget to breathe. Just when you believe you've worked out a character, he or she reveals more hidden depths and darkness. S.A. Hemmings keeps you in relentless suspense. Just when you think you know where the plot is heading, there's an unexpected twist around the corner and you find yourself tobogganing down again at vertiginous speed. Ignore all apparent sign posts - they will lull you into a false sense of security. Just enjoy the fast ride and I dare you not to gasp at the last page of the book.

Format:Paperback
This is a gripping, gutsy thriller which, as the complex layers of the plot unravel, teases the reader’s sympathies for the characters then shocks them, as violently as the action. Double lives, secrets kept for decades are gradually revealed, through the workings of the characters’ criminal minds or disturbed perceptions. Hemmings creates real depths of psychological and physical atmosphere in this stylish, compelling piece.
