Though marketed as heavy metal, this album would fit more comfortably in the folk rock category. This is in no way a criticism - this album absolutely rocks, but not in a heavy metal way and not in a folk-metal way (e.g. Skyclad) either. The song structure, the melodies, the native tongue and the subject matter brought to mind The Horslips and Fairport Convention' early 1990s incarnation. The standout tracks for me are "Regin Smidur" and "Hail to the Hammer" which are unabashed heavy folksongs with their traditional verse-chorus structure. "Wild Rover" is Tyr's arrangement of a traditional folk ballad. Rainbow Warrior is very much a modern story-telling folk song. The almost "Irish" feel of some songs is increased by the use of Faroese. As a fan of folk rock as well as metal I was blown away by this album, but metalheads with narrower tastes will disagree.

A fantastic albumn, well worth the attention of anyone who is a fan of viking metal, or even of any metal fans.

With numerous tracks that you can sing along to, dance to or just listen (including a fantastic cover of wild rover), its highly enjoyable.

Must point out that amazon have screwed up the track listings though. Strisvoelurin is a separate song to wild rover, and its regin smiaur, not smidur, tho its an accented a so that can be forgiven.

but i highly suggest you buy this, as it is a truely great albumn. just gotta get them to tour the uk now...

With this CD playing in my car it is almost like going to war in a vikingship full of brave and proud vikings of the north...

I especialy like the faroise numbers...
