Where do I begin?
First, this vendor ships you whatever kit they have, not the one in the photo on the Amazon website. I returned the one they sent (a dune buggy) and bought the one I wanted (a motorcycle) in a local toy store. I helped my 9-year-old grandson put it together and I think it turned him off to exploring the larger Erector set that I'd bought him for Christmas (this was a "let's try it out" additional gift). In too many instances the design resulted in blocked access to the end of the machine screws where you have to screw on the nuts. While we managed eventually to get that done, in many cases it was extremely frustrating for both him and for me. Furthermore, several of the pieces have to bent and held in place with a fair amount of torsion, all at the same time one's trying to get that nut on the end of the screw in an awkward place.
This is nothing like the Erector sets I grew up with as a kid. After our (and especially his) experience putting this model together, I doubt if he will ever open that larger set.
