Something strange occurs in Nick's school: boys are exchanging little flat square packages in conspiratorial secrecy. A pirated movie, or something very different...and dangerous? The game Erebos turns out to be both: complex, fascinating, it ensnares Nick.. and unaccountably seems to be watching him. Why this athmosphere of secrecy? And why are players assigned to strange, apparently pointless tasks in the real world to raise their level? Nick enjoys the game until he's assigned a task he cannot perform...poisoning one of his teachers, no less! He refuses, and he's cut out from the game. So, Nick begins an investigation aided by his friend and secret love Emily, to discover the mystery of a game that begins exacting human lives.
A thrilling mystery, a tongue-in cheek satire of virtual reality online games ("Oh, no, not another dark elf, there are SCADS of them!")and a poignant depiction of teen friendship. A must read!
