Phantastical concert,
By Porky Gam (Sleaford, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Erasure - the Tank, the Swan and the Balloon: Live [DVD] (DVD)
Previoulsy released on video and on DVD for the first time. The Tank....is a truely memorable experience. Taking may of Erasures earlier hits and wrapping them up in a very theatrical show this is a DVD for the die hard fan and novice alike. The Tank is one of the best ever concerts and although presented with 5.1 sound the pure (optional) sterio soundtrack is breathtaking in its simplicity and depth. The only minor gripe is that the picture is a little grainy, but hey it was back in 1992.If you love Erasure you will love this, if you wondered what the fuss about Earusre was .......then buy this, you'll find out about the fuss and love em as well. Enjoy one of the best concerts ever...oh! and by the way also a neat interview on how it was all put together. A 10/10 bargain!

The concert of the 90's,
By A Customer
This review is from: Erasure - the Tank, the Swan and the Balloon: Live [DVD] (DVD)
In a time where decent bands are thin on the ground this concert will bring back a lot of memories to pop fans. Erasure continue to be brilliant today but this concert was a massive effort to produce something special and different. I saw the concert live and have the VHS tape but being able to have it on DVD giving it the quality it deserves is fantastic. From beginning to end there is one classic after another and as ever Erasure's performance is electric. So if you were an Erasure fan, are an Erasure fan, want to discover Erasure, or just buy someone a Christmas gift this is a must buy.

Truly phantasmagorical,
By Jasper West (Kent, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Erasure - the Tank, the Swan and the Balloon: Live [DVD] (DVD)
Do you remember there was a time when people on the street were walking hand in hand in hand? If you do, then just maybe you were lucky enough to see this utterly fantastic performance (billed at the time as a "Phantasmagorical Entertainment"), which is more of a musical without a plot than a concert. Erasure were at the very top of their game, as well as being at the top of the charts with the Abba-esque EP. Their songs are teamed with brilliant creative direction, choreography and Dean Bright's outrageous costumes (Andy's bare-buttocked cowboy outfit and Vince's Mae West creation at the start of act 2 being the absolute highlights). Andy uncharacteristically hits a couple of duff notes early on, but for the most part the whole 2 1/4 hours is a shining example of his vocal brilliance, nowhere more so than on 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow', where he can easily give Eva Cassidy a run for her money, and 'Perfect Stranger', accompanied by nothing more than a two-fingered Vince on a Casio keyboard. Andy's energy is breathtaking throughout, but he's matched at every turn by the dancers and singers. It would be doing Annick and Veronique Clarisse an injustice to call them backing singers - they're an integral part of the action, taking on characters throughout the range of scenarios that make up the show, and forming a four-piece with Andy and Vince for all four Abba-esque tracks. Everyone on stage and in the audience is having the time of their lives, and unless you have no feeling for pop music at all, so will you.
