5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy, 16 Aug 2006
I recently bought this book, I almost didn't because of the first review but I am very glad that I did. I am not a biologist, so I found this book that starts at the beginning with organelles in cells and their functions with loads of diagrams brilliant. It has helped me make sense of why things have happened to horse I have and do know. It's summary sections under the text make ultra handy reminders for learners (even ones aged 26!).

If you are looking for a light read - look else where - the book covers the chemical reactions in repiration and the make up of bones, but it does have clear chapters so you can dip in and dip out.

For some one who is wanting a sturdy introduction to equine science; you cannot go wrong with this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing and containig errors, 1 Jan 2005
By A Customer
The title of this book suggests something detailed and comprehensive but the reality is disappointing. A lot of the information is recyled from elsewhere, some of it containing errors. The section of hoof care and management is particularly poor. The authors don't seem to have any idea of the subject and are just reporting snippets of information from other areas without checking them out. I did like the section that shows drawings of muscles and a quick summary of their origins and function. All the details in the book are very sketchy to say the least and it was not good value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for HND, FD, 1st year BSc and brushing up in general!, 17 Sep 2006

Good for lower level higher education. Good introductory book for principles. Not technical enough for higher years but doesn't protest to be. One for the bookshelf.
