I had previously owned an Epson which had lasted me for years and had proved quite economical in repect of replacement ink cartridges (plenty of cheap non oem cartridges available). When I finally laid her to rest I was given a Canon, as a present to replace her, and it proved to be a complete pile of doo-doo! The nozzels were perpetually blocking, the cost of their cartridges were boardering on extortion and non oem cartridges were few and far between, and not much cheaper!.
When I finally ran our of patience with my Canon I bought this Epson Stylus SX435W. I wanted a wifi printer as we have a desktop, three laptops and several smartphones in the house and I thought that it would be useful to be able to print from all of them, without having to switch cables and send emails etc. I wanted an Epson, but didn't want to spend a fortune and be disapointed, so I plumped for this one. The set up is easy, the wifi connections are strong and the print and scan quality are very good and it has seperate ink cartridges, whereby you only need to replace the colour thats run out. If there is one problem with the Epson then its the speed of printing which is a little on the slow side but I've never produced a document that printing a minute or two earlier would improve!
Probably the most important thing to note with any printer these days is the cost of replacement ink cartridges and with the Epson they are cheap, with non oem's even cheaper, and easy to obtain (a full set of four colours for under a tenner!).
Sure it's cheap and its probably not going to last forever, but with abuse that my kids give printers it standing up pretty well so far, does exactly what I want it to do and is cheap to run. What more do you want from a printer?
