I have xp professional and the printer loaded without any problem. The loading instructions are straightforward and the printer is great value for money. There is a slight clunk as the feeder picks up the paper but after that the printer is not unduly noisy. Follow the easy to use instructions and do not be put off with the adverse comments as I nearly was. I paid 39.99 but even at the new price it is worth the money. Replacement cartridges are cheap and for every day use what more can you want.

I done alot of research into this printer before I bought because I was looking for one with cheap cartridges, well I must say this was the one for that. I am so pleased with this printer I have printed loads off already and I still have ink, compared to the Lexmark, which was what I had before its brilliant. I was always buying cartridges for my lexmark but the epson is great and it has individual inks, so thats better. I really recommend this printer, I would say the only downside is that its quite noisy and slow, but the print quality is really good so worth the wait.

I was originally going to buy the SX200 having read favourable reviews but Amazon showed this as a newer product - with no reviews yet!

Just bought this multifunction printer and printing, scanning and copying all perform well. Copying is especially impressive as it doesn't require the PC to be on. Printing 8 pages of mixed images and text on text mode took 6 minutes with good quality on plain paper. Printing a single A4 sheet of 4 photos on 'best photo' mode took 8 minutes, with rather sombre colours. It is slower than I expected and also noisy when first feeding paper.

Problem on initial installation of software. On the required re-boot the computer hung on start-up and would only continue when I removed the printer cable. I now find that if the printer is ON then the computer (Dell Inspiron running Windows XP) will just hang every time. As soon as the printer is turned OFF then start-up sequence resumes. Epson helpline suggested disabling all start-up programs. This has made no difference. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE, partly because it is inconvenient and particularly because every time the printer is turned ON/OFF some ink is used. On reflection, perhaps Epson have done this on purpose?

The Technical Specs published by Epson says it supports Compact Flash cards, and the headline description from Amazon, says 'memory card slots'. But there is only one slot (the earlier model SX200 has two), and Compact Flash doesn't fit. The operation guide that comes with it makes no mention of Compact Flash cards. So one of the reasons I bought it - to make it easy for my wife to print photos direct from memory card - is rendered useless unless I can find an adapter. Is there such a thing? Epson's blurb from their website also says it has PictBridge capabilities - but it doesn't.

So this printer is going to have to go back as it is 'not fit for purpose' and doesn't comply with Epson's spec.

EDIT - Have returned the Epson and bought a Canon MP630. Cost half as much as again but is an absolutely superb piece of kit, solidly built, fantastic print quality (A4 best quality print in 70 secs and a borderless 6"x4" in 10 secs with the camera plugged into the PictBridge port). Still hanging on start up - perhaps it's the TWAIN scanner driver on USB1 which is the problem.

Do NOT buy an Epson printer unless you love trouble.
I was "given" an Epson Stylus SX 215 by my bank, so money is not my gripe. I have had it for about two years and am going to give it to my son (poor kid). Read more

Don't buy it!
The printer works fine WITH EPSON INK. But when you buy a cheaper cartridge, they have configured the printer to prevent competition. It nearly destroyed my computer!! Never again!

bit clunky
Cheap in the first instance, and easy to set up and use. Haven't had a lot of experience with printers, but found it a bit clunky and tempermental - esp paper feed. Read more

Printer
Good value. I'm told the cartridges don't last long and are expensive. The scanner works well although the software is a bit cumbersome to use.
