Product Description

Straightforward printing, scanning and copying

Printing, copying and scanning is painless with the compact Epson Stylus SX125. No banks of fiddly buttons or confusing menus – just reliable, high-quality results. It even works without a PC.

The SX125 gives you glossy, lab-quality photos, which you can easily edit before printing using the included software. Adjust colour, change contrast or fix red-eye in just a few clicks.

It’s just as easy to perfect your scans - the included software helps you correct backlight, restore colour and remove dust.

DURABrite inks

Print perfect documents and lab-quality photos

Whatever you print, you’ll get high-quality results every time with the SX125. Produce documents with crisp, laser-like text, and print outstanding lab-quality photos.

Enjoy prints that last

Your great-looking prints will stay that way for years to come. This is thanks to Epson’s DURABrite Ultra Ink, which features resin-coated particles for tough, long-lasting results. Prints dry instantly and resist water, smudging, fading and even highlighter pens.

Save money with individual inks

Epson’s individual ink cartridge system means you only ever need to replace the colour used. Since you won’t have to buy a whole new set of inks every time one colour is used up, this saves you money.

Cut bills and environmental impact

Qualified by ENERGY STAR, the SX125’s excellent power efficiency helps you reduce your energy bills and your impact on the environment.

Easily edit scanned text

Save time and effort with the included ABBYY FineReader™ OCR software, which allows you to easily edit any text you’ve scanned.

Epson technology

Dependable printing with Micro Piezo technology

Epson’s Micro Piezo printhead technology gives you reliable, high-quality results that can’t be matched.

Micro Piezo works by running an electric charge through piezoelectric elements, causing their shape to change. This creates a pressure wave that propels the ink. Thermal-type inkjets used by Epson’s competitors work by heating the ink, which causes it to expand and move through the nozzle to be fired onto the paper.

Epson DURABrite Ultra Ink
DURABrite is resistant to water, smudging and fading. Click here for a larger image.

The fundamental problem with thermal inkjet technology is that it’s less robust. The ink has to survive extreme conditions, and the heater is prone to burning out. Boiling ink can cause residue deposits on the element, and over time, this means the printer becomes less efficient.

Avoiding all these pitfalls, Micro Piezo operates at room temperature, offering greater ink stability and delivering perfect control over the size and placement of each ink droplet.

And, as the Micro Piezo printhead is a permanent part of the print system, unlike other manufacturers’ printheads, it is one less consumable to dispose of.

Clearer, longer-lasting prints with DURABrite Ultra Ink

Epson DURABrite Ultra Ink is an advanced pigment-based ink technology that encapsulates ink particles in a protective resin coating. This makes the ink resistant to water, smudging and fading.

The benefits include greater durability and dramatically less bleed-through than conventional dye-based inks.

DURABrite Ultra delivers laser-like text and glossy photos, which last over 200 years* when stored in a photo album.

A great little printer for a very good price. The software is very easy to install and it's easy to operate - very simple. It's quite slow at printing, particularly photos, but apart from that it's brilliant. You will need to buy a USB cable though as one is not included in the box and is essential for connecting the printer to your computer.

Good for the money. 4 April 2011

I bought this printer as a replacement of a HP model.

For the price, the printer does what it needs and what should be expected of it. For producing letters, printing out the odd few bits this printer is fine. If you print the odd picture now and then it's OK but as there are only 3 coloured inks don't expect world class photo prints. Printer is neither slow nor quick, about average and makes about the same amount of noise as most other inkjets.

There seem to be a number of negative reviews from people mass printing photo's or documents. This isn't really what this printer is for. It's made for light home use, hence the price and small ink cartridges. If you need it for regularly printing of;
Large documents - get a LaserJet or more expensive business inkjet model.
Photo's - get a dedicated photo printer with more than 3 ink colour options.
and if it needs to be quite, again go for the more expensive inkjet models or a LaserJet as they are better built to cope with the increased workload/speed and hence quieter.
You get what you pay for, so think carefully what you need the printer for, and then budget accordingly.

Build quality is OK, again what do you expect for the price. There's been no problems with paper jams, but from experience this can be hit and miss on cheaper printers compared to more expensive models. Inks cartridges are about £6 - 8 each for Epson originals, which isn't bad and they can be bought individually as and when they run out which saves on running costs. Be aware though that the cartridges are 'chipped' hence it's hard to find good compatible alternatives that work correctly. Also factor in with the purchase that the inks that come with the printer are usually only part filled (that goes for most printer manufacturers) and they will run out very quickly (they usually only have enough ink in them to get you up and running). Replacement cartridges will last much longer.

Scanning is fine, again not the quickest but it's not priced to be. There is also a one touch copy mode which works without having to use the computer and is reasonably quick.

My only real fault lies in the Epson software, which for a simple printer/scanner is rather over complicated compared to some other companies software. Even the basic settings seem to have an overabundance of options that the majority of users don't need. The manual is only supplied on the CD and so it is not easy to quickly look up what some of the settings relate to, which is a generic problem in the industry to cut costs.

Overall as a basic home printer for light use, it's very good.
