A truly exceptional printer,
By
This review is from: Epson Stylus Photo R300 Printer - colour - ink-jet - Legal, Panoramic A2 - 5760 dpi x 1440 dpi - up to 15 ppm (mono) / up to 15 ppm (colour) - capacity: 120 sheets (Electronics)
After much research I decided to get the Epson R300 with the extra colour viewing screen. I have to say after a week of some intensive testing I am extrememly impressed by the results. Initially i tested printing full A4 borderless photos directly from a media card and the results were stunning. One print took about 40 seconds and the colours and details were outstanding. I then tried printing a series of 6x4 photos using the images stored on my Microdrive and again they looked like they had come straight from a photo lab.Although I could view all my images on the colour screen I connected my camera to the USB port at the front of the printer and sent a picture direct to the printer, again the results were excellent. I was really looking forward to using the CD printing capability and I wasn't dissapointed. Using the correct CD/DVDs you can created some stunning looking DVDs. The Software that came with the Printer is really basic but quick and easy to use. The last test I did was text printing on bog standard paper and although the print was fast the text was a little saturated. I would seriously recommend this printer to anyone wishing to print top quality photos at a very reasonable price and for anyone wanting to print direct on to CD. If you want to print reams of text though - buy a cheap laser, this printer is wasted otherwise.

SUPERB,

This review is from: Epson Stylus Photo R300 Printer - colour - ink-jet - Legal, Panoramic A2 - 5760 dpi x 1440 dpi - up to 15 ppm (mono) / up to 15 ppm (colour) - capacity: 120 sheets (Electronics)
Having used 2 HP Printers in the past, the last one of which broke ( a simple plastic peg snapped ), I was looking for a printer with a bit more design and build quality, as well as superior printing. Bought the R300 even though I don't, as yet, have a need for the direct card printing features, and absolutely bowled over by the photo prints. Results are stunning and will match if not beat, most if not all, photo labs. Draft finish for b+w text printing could perhaps be better but then this is a proper photo printer.Anyone wishing to buy a photo printer, then go for either the Epson R200 or R300 - you will not be dissappointed, trust me, particularly with the £70-80 price tags currently with Amazon. Bought mine from them in January and as usual the service is first class. WELL DONE EPSON AND WELL DONE AMAZON!

R300 PRINTING FROM COMPUTER,
By
This review is from: Epson Stylus Photo R300 Printer - colour - ink-jet - Legal, Panoramic A2 - 5760 dpi x 1440 dpi - up to 15 ppm (mono) / up to 15 ppm (colour) - capacity: 120 sheets (Electronics)
In reply to Bernard from Sidmouth (hope you get to see this)and to any other Epson R300 potential and existing users- Had the R300 since Jan 05 Printing from a computer is superb with the epson drivers supplied. I favour Adobe Photoshop, and the controls from within the print set-up are fantastic, Photoshop is quite expensive, but very good (try WWW.LIMEWIRE.COM before buying it anywhere though!). I use it both on Macintosh and PC. If you cant get photoshop then you could always put your pics from your pc onto a Zip drive and connect directly to the R300 (it works, I've tested it) or onto a cd and connect via an external cd drive direct. This will give you access to the printer set up controls on the lcd! I must add however that the best prints are achieved on Epson Premium Glossy paper which isn't cheap, but you can pic up two packs (buy one get one free) of 6 x 4 (50 sheets per pack) for £5.99 from most outlets when on offer. In my opinion if you've got a printer this good then why print on inferior papers, believe me I've tried them all - that said the best fuji paper gives a good result, which to most people would be more than good enough, I use this when I'm printing images to be framed behind glass (you can get it for £9.99 for 20 sheets of A4 - great value). Another point - printing direct from memory card/zip/cd gives a truly fantastic result, BUT if your camera is Pictbridge enabled then print direct from there, there are different printing options which give an even better result! (I'm on Cannon Digital ixus 50 and Canon EOS 300d), But to most people printing from card or pc will be more than good enough, and quicker. Also you dont have to use Epson inks, I pay £2.50 for mine - just as good although maybe they dont last quite as long. Why am I writing this review - never done one before, but this printer is the dogs doo dah's, I've recommended it to about a dozen people who are all equally as happy as me. By the way, I'm in the printing trade and you will not beat this device for home use!
