Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Epson Stylus Photo 830U is a six color, A4 home photo inkjet printer offering unbeatable value. Designed for outstanding performance, the Epson Stylus Photo 830U is perfect for all the family, delivering professional quality photo prints, reprints and enlargements at high speeds. The Epson Stylus Photo 830U produces photo prints just as you get from your film processor - borderless, long lasting and of great quality. You can now produce your own reprints and enlargements at home, with the finishes you prefer, at your convenience. The Epson Stylus Photo 830U puts you in complete control of your photos, so you'll never need to go back to the high street film processor again! The Epson Stylus Photo 830U produces great quality photo prints, pin sharp text and sparkling graphics due to an amazing 5760 optimized dpi resolution. Quality is also enhanced by Epson's special 6-color ink system, which improves print quality and gives finer details, smoother gradations and deeper shadows. But there's no compromise on speed because the Epson Stylus Photo 830U prints up to 14ppm mono and 13.7ppm color. This is thanks to the exceptionally small ink droplet that Epson's Variable-sized Droplet Technology produces. This ensures fine details and smooth gradations are maintained in all printing modes.Prints from the Epson Stylus Photo 830U last a long time, especially if produced with genuine Epson media, which gives up to 25 years light fastness. There is no need to crop your finished prints either, as the Epson Stylus Photo 830 prints border free on a variety of different paper sizes.

Very annoying printer 24 Mar 2006
I know that nobody would buy this printer now, and I wonder why I have used mine for so long. The 830U has presided over my decision to use professional print services for photos, and has seen some of my angriest moments. This is something of a valediction.
Its chief failings are:
1. Heads are never clean. Printout always streaked and messy. How often I have sat and run the print/clean/print diagnostics over and over.
2. Paper feed is fiddly, often fails/jams for thicker papers.
3. If color cartridge runs out, you cannot print in black and white, it won't let you.
4. Cartridges are expensive.
My next printer will not be an Epson. The HP flat-bed feed seems superior, unless you want to print on CDs. A flat-bed feed fits in more paper, and your kids won't raid it as a sure place to find something to write on.

Pretty good! 18 Nov 2003
This Epson printer is quite good and fast. It has a good print quality even for photos.
Its disadvantages are its size (it's quite big) and that it makes a lot of noise when it prints.
Nevertheless, if you don't care about its cons its a really good and reliable printer.

Must confess I was surprised to see such poor reviews for this model. I've had 2 of them over the past 7 years odd, and searching desperately to find a 3rd one as their lifespan with intensive usage appears to only be around 3-4 years which is the only reason I dropped a star, but perhaps I'm expecting too much for it to last more than that given how hard it's worked. But I've not had any problems on a routine basis with either of the 2 I had. I use mine primarily for colour printing on a fairly intensive scale (printing either photos or full colour images for card craft) and am fairly fussy on quality so have normally bought original colour cartridges but compatible black (which also gets heavily used). I recently bought a DX7400 AIO primarily for the scanner, but while I found the printer was good, the cost of running (for me at least) was dire by comparison so I'm hugely reluctant to have to consider upgrading to such a type of machine permanently. But certainly I've loved this model (the 830U) and would recommend it. I think like most tho, it goes without saying that the biggest annoyance with ALL Epsons is their chipping strategy which appears to have got worse with later models which again, is why I'm off on a rather tough challenge to find another one of these instead! So like I said - "horses for courses..."
