Our household has the Epson R200 and we have recently purchased the R220 as an addition which is a worthy successor to the R200. The print quality is near perfect especially on photos and it is easy to get up and running. The software included is good although the CD printing software is quite simple. However, it must be said the printing results on CD/DVD are sensational.

This is a 6 cartridge machine for which you pay around £40 for a new set of Epson cartridges or, alternatively, you can get a complete set of Inkrite replicas for around £15. Using this latter option the printer is very economical to run even for everyday (non photo) printing.

Remember, this is a vertical feed printer e.g. you need some clearance above it to feed through A4 paper, plus, there is no USB lead supplied.

Overall, superb build quality and output and very good value for money.

Well I did all the searching and read all the reviews and for me, this came out at the top.
If, like me, you want hassle free, easy to understand set up and printing guides and quality prints, then this is the one to get.

While I did look at the other Epson printers that were in the £80 - £100 mark, I just felt no need for a LCD screen or memory readers as you already have them, it's called a computer! Sure they might be faster, but the R220 has just printed a A4 photo, set at the highest setting in 1min 30 seconds. I think I can live with that!

It dosn't take up to much space and looks great for a printer. Remember that you need to by a USB cable to hook it up to the PC.
It comes with small amount of trial 4x6 glossy paper, easy set up instructions and software to get you going.

One of the best buys you will make.

The whole Epson 200 & 300 series of printers produce absolutely spectacular photo prints, particularly on gloss paper. A couple of tips to people new to this printer - it's best to always set the paper type as Epson branded when printing (whatever you're using), plus there is no discernible difference between photo and best photo quality settings, other than in the amount of ink used. Secondly, there is a small rectangular foam sponge on the left side of the floor of the printer, which is used to catch the ink, whenever the print head self cleans. Once this sponge fills with ink, ink sits on the surface and siphons the ink out of full cartridges, as well as causing ink drips on the prints. Occasional careful removal and washing of the sponge eliminates this. Be warned, the ink is astonishingly difficult to get off your hands!
Quite simply I've never seen any (sensibly priced) printer which comes close to this in terms of print quality. Cheapie cartridges (easily found at around £1 each) don't significantly diminish the end result either. Cheap to run, and very easy to keep on the road too.
