5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic printer, easy set-up 31 Aug 2010
Please ignore the other review for this printer which criticises the wireless set-up - I found the wireless set-up to be very easy. Within an hour, I'd successfully set up my main desktop PC and two laptops with no problems whatsoever. Installation from the CD is slow but works fine. A USB cable (not supplied) is required very briefly when setting up the wireless connection to your main computer (although apparently the required settings can be entered directly into the printer), but not when adding extra computers. Essentially, you just need to install the Epson software from the CD onto every computer from which you want to access the printer - from there, the installation process is easy.

I had a very minor problem using Scan function. Initially couldn't get scans to transmit wirelessly to my PC, but after first re-start of my PC it works fine - saves scanned files as .jpg to My Documents - presumably the target folder can be changed, but haven't fully explored this yet.

Anyway, in summary.....

1. Print quality is fantastic
2. Individual ink cartridges
3. Very easy (if slow) wireless set-up
4. Looks good
5. Quick and easy photocopy

1. Quite a large footprint
2. Getting scans to transmit wirelessly was a nuisance (but now works fine)
3. Feels a bit flmsy

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but check cartridge prices first. 26 Sep 2010
Verified Purchase
Bought this to replace my old but reliable CX3600, mainly as I wanted a wireless setup. Looks great and not sure why others had problems with the setup as all very slick on my Windows Vista pc. Took a while to download the software but hooking up to my wireless network done in minutes. Printed off a test document and photo and all looks good so far but here's the rub. Decided to order some ink cartridges as like to have them to hand and found that currently you can only buy expensive (27 for a 4 colour low capacity set) Epson cartridges. No doubt that will change at some point (very soon hopefully) but annoying thing is, if I'd chosen the next model up or down I would have been able to buy pattern cartridges at a fraction of the price. On that basis, if you're considering this printer I would suggest you check the cartridge prices and seriously think about getting the slightly more expensive model as may well work out a lot cheaper in the short term.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simplicity Itself 6 Sep 2010
By PaddyK
Prior to purchasing this unit I read the (mixed) reviews both here and elsewhere online , but purchased it anyway as I wanted to replace my HP USB all-in-one with a wireless connection for a recently purchased Dell laptop .
Setup and Installation was seamless , initially with the USB cable connected , then the WiFi automatically detected both my home network and the printer itself , and took little more than 15 minutes to complete the whole process with print , scan , and copy funtions performing perfectly . Print quality is as good as , or even better than the HP all-in-one , although I havent used the photo printing or card reader as yet , but they werent my prime concerns anyway .
My only critisism is that the paper transport mechanism is slightly more noisy than the HP unit , but then this is a wireless printer and has been set up in another room to that in which the laptop is generally used .
Overall , first impressions are of an excellent unit that is simplicity itself to set up and use .

3.0 out of 5 stars cartridges are a let down... 30 May 2011
The printer is amazing. Meets all needs. Educational printing, career printing, photo printing....

HOWEVER, I would not recommend due to the ink cartridges. I bought this mainly on the assumption that the seperate cartridges would save me money on ink.... WRONG. The cartridges barely hold any ink at all - even the slightly larger sized cartridges hold very little and it does not go far.
Another down side also to do with the cartridges is that this printer (unlike my old HP one) will NOT print only with black cartridge installed (for text only). It requires that ALL FOUR cartridges are installed and not empty to function. Big let down since the printer and software are actually very good.

I will not be selling the printer on too quickly as I have managed to find reasonably priced compatible cartridges here on amazon 8pk (2 full sets) T1285 Compatible ink cartridges for Epson printers S22 SX125 SX420 SX420W SX425 SX425W BX305F BX305FW, compatible replacements for T1281 Black x 2, T1282 Cyan x 2, T1283 Magenta x 2, T1284 Yellow x 2, T1285 Multipack Set x 2. 4.0 out of 5 stars It's Bigger Than You Think!! 28 Sep 2010
The printer is good to look at and very good functionally ~ the only minor problem which I encountered was that, whilst it fitted onto the desk shelf designed to accommodate a printer, the A4 paper would not fit in height-wise without being 'bent' to go in. The problem then is that the printer cannot feed the paper properly and announces that the paper tray is empty. It is a minor point but worthy of consideration if you have a 'printer shelf' on your desk.

The quality of the printing is excellent and, overall, the printer is an excellent acquisition and the WiFi capability is a huge bonus (especially if the printer doesn't fit under your desk!!). I would recommend this printer but ensure that you shop around for the best price.

Rubbish printer loading of paper is a pain and it never works first time. Must be better printers out there than this piece of crap. Will never buy an Epson again
