I have had my RI800 printer since late last Autumn and whilst I love the excellent quality and colour reproduction, I must once again mention the cost of replacing these chipped things. I hate to bang on about these particular ink cartridges but, I MUST make a serious point.
My printer has just stopped working. It tells me I am out of Gloss Optimizer and need to replace the cartridge.
Well, how can it be empty when I have NEVER used the Gloss... and I mean NEVER used it. I've never even printed a test sheet out of curiosity. Like most Epson users these days, I am being hijacked by Epsons technology.
Every time you change a single ink cartridge, the printer is programmed to FLUSH AWAY a little bit of your good UN-USED ink cartridges too! Hence, although it's never been used, my Gloss is empty and my entire printer has stopped working until I but a new one. When I do buy one, and put it in the slot, the machine will once again FLUSH AWAY a little bit more ink from all 8 cartridges before it starts printing again.
How legal is this? I've paid for the ink in my machine and I should chose how and when I use it.
In my opinion, it's like a new car tyre being sold with slow puncture but without the customer being told about it before they drive away.
