Product Description

The ideal printer for those looking for complete flexibility, the Epson XP-202 provides easy printing from a range of devices. The easy Wi-Fi connectivity allows printing from not only every pc connected to your network, but also from smartphones and tablets meaning you no longer have to use a USB cable to connect up your devices, making it much easier to start printing. Its high resolution print quality ensures your pictures and documents come out in the best possible quality and as it has a very quick printing speed, up to 30 pages per minute, you won't be waiting long for them either. You can also save money on the cost of inks thanks to its Daisy Ink cartridges, which allow you to change individual cartridges when they need replacing instead of having to change many at once.

Update on below review.

Regarding the changing IP address, I have now manually given the printer a fixed IP via my router and for now it looks to have worked.

Regarding the power settings, having received a tip from raigraphixs (thank you) I have now changed the auto power to off. This is done in the following way (XP but I guess very similar in Vista and W7).
Start
Settings
Printers & Faxes
Right click on the printer
Printing preferences
Maintenance tab
Printer & optional information
Current printer settings - hours
select off then send.
Job done

Regarding speed, still not as good as the SX600FW

Regarding ink usage, better with the more costly ink option, again still not as good as the SX600FW.

Mass printing, still way off that of the SX600FW.

Updates to follow if I come across anything that might help.

Star rating still at 3 stars as I've not tried to print any photos yet.

Original review
I pre ordered this as I have an Epson SX600FW that is excellent and needed something I could move to an alternative location in the house with relative ease , other than the same manufacturer that is as close as they come to doing a similar job as a printer. Yes delivery was perfect and the printer arrived on time, expected as it was a pre order.

Now for a few things I don't like and that I may have over looked prior to purchasing.

Set up isn't that simple & I know my way around interfaces and IP addresses, takes about 10 to 15 mins. Then once set up there is very little you can change.

Once connected via WiFi (main reason for getting this as well as for its size as I need to move rooms when both my wife and I are working from home) the printer works fine (but very slow) until you have to reboot your router for any reason then you either have to go into printers properties and change the port setting to the new IP address (found by holding in the i button for 6 seconds) or in to the router its self and and change it back to what the IP address says in the printer port settings or it wont work, or reinstall the printer again. Better still, once connected find out what the IP address is by holding the i button for 6 seconds, then go in to your router and allocate the IP address as fixed so you don't have to do it later or change the port settings (only recommended for those who know there way around router configurations and how to allocate fixed IP address via the Mac address.

Then there is the ink, it comes with a set of standard inks that last about the same amount of time as it takes my puppy to eat its food "and that isn't very long", in fact he has eaten it before I have washed my hands. Replacement inks are very expensive compared to other Epson inks I have purchased before, there is an upgraded set of inks that go by the name of XL that claim to be better and last longer (and cost more), well I have one now installed and will see how long this lasts or if I notice a change in the quality, ho and for those clever sods who will comment saying that you don't get a full set of ink in the free set of inks they are part full yes I am aware of this and have taken it in to consideration thanks.

Now for the 3rd most annoying feature the XP-202 has. For most the power saving feature would sound like a great idea "lets save a little money on electricity and a token gesture to the environment, the printer powers down when not being used " about half an hour" yippee money saved, however (smile now gone) you then have to manually switch it back on before you can print again as the printer doesn't wake up other wise, if you have already sent something to print you will need to manually restart this also. To date I haven't found away to over ride this option, nor away to not have to restart the printing again as the user interface is about as useful as a sun had in the UK summertime. I would send it back if it wasn't for the fact that my work has paid for it along with a couple of sets of ink's.

So if you want a printer that is:
Small (yes this ticks the box)
That has a WiFi option (yes another tick in the box)
If you don't mind having to switch the printer back on and reset your printing every time you want to print (another tick in the box)
If you are only going to print a small amount of letters, yes I agree that not many people would print 60 letters at a time like I do, if you don't mind changing the black ink sooner than expected (again another tick), haven't printed in colour yet so cant say how long the colour inks will last, but if the black is anything to go by "ping" (another tick)
Don't need a user friendly interface that helps you make practical changes (last tick).

Before purchasing the Epson XP-202 think on the above, then again it might be just me that is ticked off with this model of printer as I expected more from it.

Last thing, I would have given the printer 2 stars if I could for the issues above & 4 stars for delivery, size and because I like Epson printers so thought it only right to give it 3 in the end.

Hope this helps

2.0 out of 5 stars Not happy 16 Nov 2012
Epson Expression Home XP-202 Wi-Fi Small-in-One PrinterThe only good thing about the printer is that it prints good pictures, but the setup and changing inks is a nightmare. Every time it will not recognise the ink and I have to go through a process of rubbing the green connector, I have twice been in touch with Epson helpline and had to work out what is wrong with the machine and it is only two weeks old. The ink only lasts a short amount of time. Would not recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke within 24 hours 14 Nov 2012
I bought this printer because it was relatively cheap and other reviewers online seemed to like it. However, mine refused to load paper correctly - it would invariably crumple and cause a paper jam. The fifth time this happened, a small bit of paper got stuck behind this little barrier thing it has between the main cavity and the paper loading mechanism. I managed to work that piece out through a tiny slot with a very thin object, but the printer still said there was a paper jam. I called Epson about it, who confirmed there was no way to get past the barrier, told me to try turning it off and on again, and when that didn't work they said I was best off just returning it. Apparently they would have to send it to an engineer to fix it and since I'd bought it so recently, returning it was the quickest way.

So in summary: It may print well, but I can't comment on that because mine broke without ever successfully printing anything. This printer seems VERY easy to break - one paper jam can completely ruin it.
