5.0 out of 5 stars Epson Expression Home XP-205 16 Jan 2013
By Andria
Just bought one of these by way of product replacement - paid for the Epson SX235W All-in-One Wi-Fi Printer but they were out of stock so the XP-205 arrived on the doorstep instead.

Out of the box, they look the same. The size and weight are the same, as is the interface. What's the difference? So far as I can tell it's the printing speed and clarity - and the fact that the XP-205 gives you access to Epson Connect1, which is a facility that allows you to remotely connect to your printer. In short you can be *wherever* and send a task to your printer via your smartphone or tablet computer.

I'd imagine that the increased level of usability is worth paying a little extra for, more so if your working life revolves around the modern mobile office. For me I can't say, as I got the printer by accident rather than design.

Having made use of it the last few days it's:

1) pretty fast
2) efficient
3) easy to install
4) compact
5) up to performing all tasks (print/scan/copy) with ease

From my experience, if you give it top quality paper it delivers pretty impressive results. In a nutshell a bargain at its current price, and well worth the small investment. Icing on the cake? Cheap inks :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Epson Printer XP - 205 19 Jan 2013
Just bought an Epson Home Expression XP 205 printer from Argos, current price 34.99. I had reserved an older model, the SX235W but I received this one instead of it. Have to say it was very easy to set up but a USB cable (not supplied), was required for the initial WI FI set up. Just pop the installation CD into a computer, follow the simple onscreen instructions and that's it. Took about 10 minutes in total. The printer itself is very quite and easy to use. Ink prices are important to me and I always check before buying any printer. Two full sets of replacement ink currently costs around 19 on Amazon, but hopefully prices will come down further when the printer has been longer on the market.

This is a very affordable printer. Very neat and easy to use. Installation was straightforward and would recommend to anyone with an iPhone, iPad etc. have been using it for a few weeks and haven't come up against anything negative.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the packet! 6 Mar 2013
By Anita
Verified Purchase
After reading the reviews both on Amazon and Which, I decided to purchase the Epson Expression. It arrived punctually and was easy to install. However, I did encounter a problem, due I can only think due to the fact that my home pc is shared and my husband and I have seperate logins. Initially it all went well and we could both print, but the following day my husband could not print and when we went into printer settings the Epson was not there! I then had to load it all over again and so far it all seems to work ok, other than we now seem to have the Epson printer and an 'Epson printer copy'!! Other than that, it prints quickly, is easy to scan and copy and all at a very reasonable price. The ink cartridges all seem reasonably priced (from Amazon).

4.0 out of 5 stars So far so good 6 Feb 2013
I have spent a lot over the years on Epson printers I even spent over 300 on one
many years ago..it was a very clever A3 jobby.......it broke after a couple of years ....most do.NO they all do !

My last cheapy Epson had a paper jam even when the paper was removed...........the nice people at Epson told be it would need an engineer....that would have cost me more than I paid for it .it was 38 quid new a couple of years ago.Sadly it went to the tip with all the other printers in a heap.

The fact is when they go wrong ( and they will) throw them away and get a new one.

Three things are important when buying an all-in-one printer.........does it do what you want it to.
How cheap is it to buy ( remember its going to go wrong ) and can you buy "cheap inks "

You will not be able to buy cheap inks for brand new models...so an older model may be better.
Inks may well cost a lot more than the printer over its life...and certainly if you buy the original inks they will.

They also keep Epson and the others in fat profits.......dont buy original inks. Repeat...do not buy original inks whatever they tell you.Clearly they make make more profit from inks than machines and they try and scare you into using their own inks :)Nah !

Also its almost impossible to buy a non wireless printer these days.......who needs wireless ? I dont!.My printer is a few feet away from my computer. Led screens for pretty pics.....back lit switches......no thanks.

So now on to this printer.........easy to set up after some long winded downloads.........useless instructions in 4 point tinkerbell light covering every language in the world . But I still cant read English its almost impossible to read without a magnifying glass.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good machine with very poor instructions 29 Mar 2013
By Sandy
This is a very good machine with very poor instructions.

If you have one PC you will have no problems running it over WiFi.
If you have more than one PC you will have a problem. It will fail to connect.
You must download software from Epson to set the printers IP address to manual and not automatic. Set it to 192.168.1.100.
If you do this you will always connect over WiFi no matter which order you switch on your devices.

Epson ink costs 56 for an 18XL set. XL is a joke as the cartridges are barely half full - 11ml.
You can get full cartridges from Amazon, by full I mean 18.5ml, for less than 10 including P&P.

I can recommend this machine provided you are able to fix the IP address and use non Epson ink.
