Unsurpassable 21 Jan. 2007
By Fred Phillips - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Joshi & Schultz, editors op.cit.are senior editor for the Esoteric Order of Dagon, an amateur press association journal concerned with the Lovecraftian oeuvre. Joshi won the World Fantasy Award last year.Even 16 years after publication it employs tha latest critical techniques for recognizing H.P. Lovecraft as having influenced supernatural horror writing more than any other writer since his death. No other anthology compares with the thematic scope of Epicure or offers as detailed biographical analysis of his eminence as a pulp writer of te '20s & '30s who has finally been elevated to the American literary canon.

Very good 1 Nov. 2013
By Stephen Lerch - Published on Amazon.com

If you are looking for more of Lovecraft's work, then keep looking.

This book is a collection of 13 essays that range from looking at Lovecraft's life to the themes within his works. Everything is well researched and every scholar pays plenty of respect, and criticism on Lovecraft and his works.

In terms of what is different, as in the big ugly "new and revised" bubble on the cover, there really isn't much from what I understand (I don't own the original to direct compare). They corrected some bibliographic information to more accurately depict the works that have been discovered in "more complete" editions since the original released and some of the essays are slightly edited for content as well.

Recommended if you are interested in the man, along with the work of the man.
This is a perfect jumping off point for anyone looking to get involved ... 19 Jan. 2015

Separating Lovecraft from Derleth and the other successors this book provides an enlightening glimpse of what Lovecraft was writing about. This is a perfect jumping off point for anyone looking to get involved with the sort of overarching mythology that has become synonymous with Lovecraft.
