Amazon.co.uk Review

By dint of the inexplicable popularity of their send-up of movie genres in the parody movies Scary Movie and Date Movie, writer/director duo Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer probably got an epic-sized bucket of cash for this hastily stitched pastiche of drive-by entertainment. There's no particular variety of movie they were sent to send up this time, unless big box-office grossers has now become a genre in and of itself. If so, Epic Movie may well qualify as part of that league itself. Very little expense has been spared to make so-called "comic" references to a slew of mostly recent blockbusters--The Chronicles of Narnia, Borat, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the X-Men and Harry Potter series, Superman Returns, Nacho Libre, and The Da Vinci Code to name a few--and it's assumed we've seen them all.

In a goofy thread of a story about four orphans plucked from some of the above, battle must be done through various bastardized plots from same so that a prophecy can be fulfilled and they can assume their rightful place as rulers of a sacred land. Lots of crotch kicks, fart, urine, and vomit jokes speed by as we pass through Willie Wonka's factory and a magical wardrobe with an unusually interesting assortment of look-alikes and name actors caught up in the gag mix (some of it legitimately funny). Darrell Hammond, Crispin Glover, David Carradine, Kevin McDonald, Carmen Electra, Kal Penn put on game (and sometimes gamy) faces, and it's definitely a hoot to watch comedy improv alums Fred Willard and Jennifer Coolidge as Aslo the Lion and the White Bitch do battle in a Narnian good vs. evil character smackdown. As lame as you already expect a movie like this to be, anything that can throw together an homage to C.S. Lewis alongside MTV's Punk'd in less than 90 minutes can't be all bad. --Ted Fry

This film is so bad 19 Aug 2010
By Echoes
Format:DVD
I don't mind Scary Movie type films I wouldn't choose to go and watch them myself but I have friends who love them. So I end up going along to the cinema to watch such movies with them. And to be honest I quite like Scary Movie it has some really funny moments I could easily watch it again.

Epic Movie, however, is actually the worst film I have ever seen in my whole life and I include in that the films students in my A-level Media Studies class used to make. It's the only film I have considered walking out of and demanding my money back.

Not a single moment of it was funny in any sense of the word, unless you have some sick masochistic sense of humour where you enjoy subjecting yourself to a badly written piece of trash. None of the actors seemed to have done more than blankly read their own lines out in a sudo-funny style. They seemed to have no idea what was going on in the plot or why they were dressed in costumes from other films, nor did anyone else involved in the production. Nobody evolved in the making of the film appears to have any love for it. It was made to fill a gap in the market without any real thought. Someone was hired to write it told what film references to include, told to add some random surreal bits. Then when they handed in what they thought was their first rough draft they were told that would do and it was used in the final film.

Don't watch this!!!! unless someone actually pays you to do so, and if they do make sure your getting at least £5.80 an hour.

I am sat here watching this dvd and it is so unfunny its untrue.I loved the naked gun films and even the scary movie films were funny but the script in this film has no comedy at all.i slightly laughed once when he was shot in the eye as superman - the rest was ridiculously unfunny.do not waste your time with this. 0 stars.
