Book Description

1 Dec 1996 Tyndale New Testament commentaries
Unlike Paul's letters to the Galatians or the Corinthians, the letter to the Ephesians contains almost no clues about the situation and issues its recipients faced. Nevertheless, the letter vividly depicts how God's will revealed in Christ reorients believers' lives toward unity, mutual respect, submission and love - in short, new life in Christ. Francis Foulkes expounds with clarity and ease the letter's central themes and emphases.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent evangelical commentary 3 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This commentary is high quality. It combines sound doctrine, scholarly knowledge and an easy to read style. Difficult questions are faced head on but always with a respect for the original text.

Foulkes is clear, easy to understand, and reasonably detailed.
His insights into the text I have found very useful indeed.
Coming from the Tyndale 'stable', one knows where the author is placed on the theological spectrum, which happens to suit me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total Disappointment 24 Nov 2012
The rest of it was okay, nothing spectacular; but the writer's interpretation of Ephesians 4:11-16 infuriates me, this part alone reduced its rating to 1. Junia became "Junias" (masculine), a definitely offensive alteration of the original. No biblical evidence supported his claim that apostles and prophets should cease to exist after the 1st generation of Christianity, in fact, there is a lot in the New Testament itself, especially 1 Corinthians 12-14 and Book of Revelation stating the contrary... He wasn't even bothered to provide sufficient explanations and evidence to back up his claims, expecting his readers to take those views for granted. I regret wasting money on such an off-balance commentary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Explanation of the Prison Epistles 28 Mar 2010
By Justin Wright - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Foulkes' commentary on Ephesians is not only a classic, but a great work to help you understand this Epistle and others like it. Foulkes' Introduction gives an accurate and succinct summary of the historical context of Ephesians as well as laying out the many historical debates over authorship and address.
In the commentary section Foulkes capably breaks down ever verse and lays out many of the sometimes controversial topics. His understanding of the concepts of Election and Predestination and Paul's view and use of them are the best I've ever read. He also covers relationships between husbands and wives, rules for Holy living, and the role of the Holy Spirit.
All in all a great read, you'll be glad you went through it.

The book sent was an older copyright version that served no purpose for my use. It was a waste of money and not the book I ordered. Butch

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for the price! 18 Sep 2009

I need this book for a class I want to take. The only problem was a mark on the front and I expected as least as much. The inside was perfect, much better than I expected.
