4.0 out of 5 stars nice tunes 30 Dec 2003
Format:Audio CD
Took me a couple of days to get into this cd and now thoroughly enjoy it. It's nice 'smoke' music. At times this cd reminds me of Autechre but overall this has a warmer feel to it, not so clinical. There are some nice melodic bass beats on here as well as some concentration on organic sounds, which gives the whole thing breadth and versatility. A good addition to the cd rack.

The day fridge formulated the content of Ceefax and all of their other releases, intentions were focused on inspiration through simplistic oddities. This was a road that was abstained by the majority of music travellers and time has resulted in a more accessiblity-orientated album that remains delightful. The shattering Yttrium drives through all the barriers previously errected by the band themselves and combines a dance base with the distinctive flavour of the post-rock threesome. There is a lot to be taken from a record produced with such groundbreaking ideas, for the current music scene, that attains such listenability. Maybe the futuristic mantle will be taken on by the band's side-project FourTet. I believe the time has come for Fridge to see their material mixed by the dance/trance D.J.s and will fill their pockets with the resultant benefits. Never a disappointment if this enables them to finance a continuing development of a sound fresher than Nintendo Teenage Robots.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly new sound from this electronic instrumental 30 July 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is pure instrumental music. It is also electronic ambient, and has an experimental and free form quality that gives it its freshness. In the forefront, the jazz style drum rhythms keep you guessing as to the natural beat, and the spacey motifs are reminiscent of Orbital. There is plenty to listen to in the structure of the music, and the opening track, Ark, has an irresistible feel of perpetual motion, driven on by a persistent monotonic bass-line and slow heavy drumbeat with crashing cymbals. The final track, Aphelion demonstrates inventive use of bowed instruments, and is a true masterpiece. My only gripe is that the whole experience ends in just over 40 minutes, hence the 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mogwai with more production and synths 2 May 2000
By Brynjolfur Erlingsson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I bought this CD because I'd heard one song. That song was 'Ark' and it's one of the best post-rock instrumental music I've heard. The album isn't as fantastic as 'Ark'. but it still is very good.

The sound is just incredible and it's the best produced album of this style I've heard, besides Tortoise's 'TNT'.

If you liked Tortoise's 'TNT', Mogwai's 'CODY' or Trans Am's 'Futureworld'...this is something for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure genie ass!! Yes it's magical. 17 April 2013

The first cut is amazing how the layers work against each other creating parallel but different soundscapes in conversely graduating intensity. This has to be one of the most well crafted & thought out songs in the history of music! Pure genius.
