Biography

It is one of the most extraordinary stories in contemporary music. Very few people would have seen the potential fully, when a young slip of a girl from Donegal, on the remote north western tip of Ireland, by the name of Eithne Ní Bhraonáin, first hooked up with Nicky Ryan and his partner Roma Ryan.

It was the tail end of the 1970s and by then Nicky was a well established ... Read more in Amazon's Enya Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Relax to a beautiful voice! 8 Oct 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have all of Enya's work and am as ever exceptionally pleased with this. I honestly believe that the work speaks for itself. She has a truly beautiful and relaxing voice and if you're new to her work then you could certainly do worse than starting here.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true gem but this version is unnecessary. 23 April 2004
By Distant Voyageur - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This self-titled release from Enya was recorded for a 1986 documentary called "The Celts" and was heard on the documentary. This album unfortunately was not noticed in public when first released which is a shame because this is a really beautiful and haunting album. The only problem I have is that it's very short. This original album runs at only 39 and a half minutes and leaves you wanting more.
This album has been out of print for a long time but was re-issued as "The Celts" in 1992 with new artwork. The biggest difference between this and it's re-issued version is that the song "Portrait(Out of The Blue)" is very short and runs at less than one and a half minute where as the version on the 1992 re-issued "The Celts" has the song extended to over 3 minutes with a new melodic part inserted and it improves the song by a longshot. The album cover on here is black and white.
This version of "The Celts" is more for the completists or to provide yourself with a back-up copy of "The Celts" but on a musical scale this is a really beautiful album.

I recommend this because it is upbeat while beautifully soothing at the same time. I love playing Enya in the background. It's positive not dreary. Highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have 14 Feb 2012
By Jane in Milwaukee - Published on Amazon.com

I remember being startled when I first heard this CD. The singing was like nothing I'd ever heard and the sound is still so fresh. I have all her CD's and this was the first. Great introduction!

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Cheers for Leaving Clannad 4 Nov 2012
By Christopher - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
After Leaving Clannad (the family band) with her producer Nicky Ryan, Enya created this gem. This album is actually one of my favorites because of the range of emotion conveyed. While it may all sound a little sad and quiet, she truly communicates a temperament like no other. "I Want Tomorrow" is a perfect example of that. It is a love song, however sounds more like a bossy tragedy. I love the somewhat separate stories that can be told in the music and in the lyrics. Quite magical really and I highly recommend it! (Also get "Enya" instead of "The Celts". They are almost identical since "The Celts" was a reissue of "Enya", however I prefer "Enya"'s pretty album artwork better)
