Book Description

11 April 2012 Building and Surveying Series
Environmental Science in Building covers the science, technology and services that relate to the comfort of humans and the environmental performance of buildings.

This popular text is designed to be useful, at all levels, to students and practitioners of architecture, construction studies, building services, surveying, and environmental science.

This new edition has been thoroughly updated and the contents reorganised to ensure optimum presentation and understanding of topics. Covering a range of topical areas including climate change, carbon and energy management, sustainability in construction, and sick and green buildings, this remains the key introductory text for understanding the principles and theories of the environmental science behind construction.

Key features of the seventh edition are:

• Clear and accessible text layout for ease of use
• Minimum prior knowledge of science and mathematics assumed
• Worked examples explained step-by-step
• Fully updated dynamic illustrations and figures
• Large resource sections of supporting information and references

More About the Author

I have written many UK/USA books on technology, computing, education and training - some of those forgotten children spookily show up on Amazon and Google book lists.
Not forgotten however is my leading text book: Environmental Science in Building, which covers the science, technology and services that relate to our human comfort and the environmental performance of buildings. The many editions of this book have evolved starting from a time when terms such as 'environmental' and 'sustainability' were barely known. The book is designed to be used by anyone who lives in the environment! Keeping the contents and focus of book up-to-date is an interesting challenge for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Environmental science in building (paperback) 9 Nov 2012
By johnny
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am currently studying 'Building studies'. With the information that this book has to offer, i have not only been flying through my essays with the lowest grade of a distinction, but have had all the things that i once thought about in the past in regards of building, answered.

As a general builder, this book has helped me become more knowledgeable in the aspect of choosing building materials. This book teaches you the science behind the materials that is used in todays construction industry. An in-depth description of materials used, the impact it has on the environment is explained.

This book gives you a clear understanding of the 'built environment' and 'natural environment'.

By far the best book i have ever read, and i always refer back to it. My lecturer also loves this book and said that this book could even put me through my masters after i pass my degree of course.
