Product Description

Product Description

The acclaimed Colombian vocalist and songwriter Marta Gomez takes the listener on a journey through Latin America, skilfully squeezing in 13 different rhythms on the album's 14 tracks, from countries as varied as Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela and Mexico.

Gomez pays tribute to the award-winning Spanish film "The Sea Inside" with a flamenco that crescendos to a moving female chorus, and to Nicaraguan poet Ruben Dario, one of whose poems inspired the song "Esta Linda La Mar".

Gomez'z crystalline vocal work is beautifully accompanied by the Argentinian guitarist Julio Santillan, who also arranged the album, with Yulia Musayelyan on flute, Fernando Huergo on electric bass and Franco Pinna on drums.

Personnel:
Marta Gomez - (vocals), Yulia Musayelyan - (flute), Fernando Huergo - (electric bass), Franco Pinna - (drums)
and others

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Lp from a wonderful singer 6 April 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Miss Gomez has a wonderful voice - a latter day Astrud Gilberto or Jacqui McShee perhaps. These are wonderful Columbian folk/ballad songs. She is backed by perfect musicians who generate a a pacey Latin American rhythm.

The quality of the recording from Chesky records is exceptionally good , there are no loudness wars here. The recordings bring out the best of her voice and the music.

This recording is quoted by HiFi journalists as a reference point to show how good 24/96 "HiRes" music downloads are. The CD sounds just as good to my ears and will do so for virtually everyone else. Save you self some money and plump for the CD version or the 16/44.1 CD quality download: 5 stars for the music and 5 stars for the sound quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing 27 May 2007
By E. Giraldo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
A breath of fresh air for traditional Latinoamerican rithms. A beautiful exploration of classical and modern rithms from the Americas with a clear jazz influence. From Argentina, to Peru, from Uruguay to Cuba, from Venezuela to Mexico and always present Colombia. An alternative to the better known caribbean rithms that caracterize the common perception of latinoamerica musical culture. The lyrics are descriptive and full of images evocative of the life in the region. If you are looking for a great contemporary representation of latinoamerican music to listen and enjoy, this is your CD!

I ordered this after seeing Marta Gomez at the Rochester International Jazz Festival.
Loved her performance, and love the CD. She has a very expressive and clear voice. The CD is filled with songs that show off her broad vocal quality. Beautiful! Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Voice That Transcends Language 29 Feb 2012
By Robert - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
It is difficult to describe both the voice and musical style of Marta Gomez. The voice is very clear, like a bell. The style, generally, is exceptionally mello for Latin Music, for any music. It is almost hypnotic. I only wish she did more U.S. performances, any on the west coast. She has become on of my favorite artists in any language.

Her voice and the music takes me to another world. It features flutes, soft drums, I can't discribe it. Easy going, love to hear it in the car to relax me.
