This book is brilliant. I used it for an Italian themed party and all the recipes I used were a hit. The ingredients are easy to find in the UK and the recipes simple to follow. Added to this are lots of pages of tips and recommendations from Carmela helped along by the other Soprano characters 'in their own words', which are really funny. These range from advice on 'party anxiety' from Dr Melfi, parenting advice from Janice for unruly children and 'Poker Etiquette' from Silvio. A great mix of good food, practical ideas and fun reading inbetween. As Carmela says, "If you aren't having fun planning and hosting a party, your guests probably won't have that much fun either. No one is sticking a gun to your head."

Spin-off merchandise either flops or succeeds really well. This book succeeds really well, not least because the recipes are very good and easy to make. I bought it as a joke gift for my son and partner, but, in true Soprano fashion, decided to betray them both and keep it myself (in a dark cellar, wrapped in polythene - you'll never find it, kids!)
The recipes are interspersed with comments from various Soprano characters on subjects as varied as how to be a good Godfather; how to plan a wedding (such a pity Adriana disappeared)and what to do when unexpected Feds arrive just as the family is sitting down to dinner. Read it for fun; cook the dishes for friends and family and never ever leave all your money in the bird feeder. Enjoy, and don't sit with your back to the door!
