4.0 out of 5 stars Useful 21 Dec 2010

Replication can be tricky, especially to mobile devices using HTTP. This book came in handy, but I needed to use it in conjunction with MSDN examples to get what I was doing working correctly. It's fairly expensive for a small book hence 4*.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and thorough guide 11 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
Having read Rob Tiffany's previous book on synchonisation I was delighted to get my hands on this updated version brought up to date with the latest SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server Compact 3.5. The book covers the necessary theory and practise for planning and implementing your synhronisation architecture. When it comes to actually configuring your system the book uses a clear step by step approach with screenshots to illustrate each stage in the process. The author shares his experience through simple tricks to check for failed synchronisation through to lengthy discussions on performance tuning. Overall a very valuable read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enterprise data synchronization, a practical guide. 12 Mar 2010
By AHM Steenveld - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book by Rob Tiffany is an excelent example of 'How To Get Things Done'. With easy reading text a whole system is configured from scratch without too much fuss on 'why' and 'what'. System integrity, security and performace are major points of concern in his book.

In no time you have a system up and running and this book gives enouch information to extend it on your own once you have a working system.

This is a book for the practical minded engineer, for use in a project that has a deadline to keep, for testing the feasability of some idea. It gets you started in a minimum of time.

It is clearly not a book discussing all kind of possiblities of a product or technique. It is also not a book for a starting engineer, some knowledge about systems and databases is a must.

Books like this are helpfull in delivering what the customer ask in time. More books like this needs to be written.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for anyone replicating data with SQLCE 1 Sep 2009
By Reed R. Robinson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Rob is the real deal. He wrote this book from the trenches...hands on, real-world deployments. Simply put, he is the guy Microsoft would drop-ship into the biggest, most strategic, and difficult SQLCE replication deployments out there with a directive to "make it succeed". This book is filled with prescriptive, real-world advice on how to do it right.

If you are doing replication with SQL Server Compact Edition (SQLCE), this will be the best $20 you will ever spend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise with no distractions 29 Dec 2009
By Richard Collette - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was pleasantly surprised at how concise this book is in presenting a scalable data synchronization architecture and the actual configuration steps for implementing it. It reads mostly like a setup guide or instruction manual rather than a discussion.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book 18 Feb 2013

Could have gone into details for a republisher scenario, but, overall, the book was excellent. I would recommend it to any IT professional.
5.0 out of 5 stars A great, quick, runthrough 7 Jan 2013
By Wes Crockett - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book was quite thorough but not written like a typical tech-related book... It was to the point, well guided, well formed and easily read. I read it in one sitting in about 3 hours and I know that I have a much better grasp on Merge Replication with SQL Server 2008.
