This book exceeded expectations. It could have been described better as the content was even greater than I expected it to be.

I give my highest recommendation to "Entering the Healing Ground." This is a book to hold and to share. In my nine years as a nurse working with nearly one-third of the women in Sonoma County, California newly diagnosed with breast cancer, I have traveled the terrain of grief. Francis Weller's work teaches how to be present with grief in a way that stirs the healing waters. He speaks in a rich language that draws me to re-read lines and, as with poetry, pause to let them work on me. Whether our grief is personal illness, a broken childhood, financial distress, ancient shame, love lost or never found, Fukushima, war, or a persistent sense of emptiness -- in the midst of all of it, this book offers pathways to attend deeply to our grief and to emerge with an affirmation of life that expands our capacity for compassion, broadens the range of our emotional experience, helps us act on behalf of our world, and brings us closer to our authentic being. -- Lea Borden, RN-BC

5.0 out of 5 stars Community support in your grief 31 July 2012
By Steve - Published on
In his book, "Entering the Healing Ground", Francis Weller does an excellent job of both outlining the major arenas of our inevitable losses and reasons for feeling grief as a human being, and the enormous benefit of openly embracing these feelings in a community, ritual setting. In other cultures the ritual acknowledgment of loss and grief is regularly addressed in their collective wisdom through supportive mechanisms developed over the ages. We, on the other hand, seem to carry shame about and resistance to our grief to the degree that we often tend to try to "deal with it" alone. In the context of "being there for each other" the value of communal expressions of these difficult feelings is of great value in a balanced and whole human experience. Weller's book sets the stage for participation in these kinds of rituals which we would all benefit from at times in our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential guide for the Soul's journey through grief 28 July 2012
By Larry Robinson - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Most of us instinctively turn from what makes us uncomfortable. Yet often the greatest gifts lie hidden in what we avoid. Certainly at this time we have much to grieve both as individuals and as a culture; but our collective amnesia about the traditional practices of grieving keep us from uncovering the buried treasures that could be our salvation. In fact, the accumulated weight of our ungrieved losses may be at the root of what is fragmenting our world.

Francis Weller's lyrical and moving book offers us a way to remember and embrace these practices and, by so doing, renew our lives and restore the soul of the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent and Unique Resource 20 Jan. 2013
By Marc Hoffman - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Francis Weller is uniquely qualified to write on the subject of how we experience grief and its role in healing the individual and community. Reading this book, I am struck by the depth of his experience, his profound thinking, and the extensive scholarly research that inform his ideas.

Our western culture strives to sweep suffering aside, resulting in deeper, more lasting wounds to the psyche. This book does a great job examining the implications for the individual and the community. It goes far beyond the realm of academic philosophy: give it your true attention and you will find yourself profoundly transformed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entering the healing ground 28 May 2013
By Chance Massaro - Published on
Part of the beauty of this little book is that it's little. One can easily read the whole thing in a couple of hours. After those two hours my life was different. I understood so many of my complicated feelings after losing my parents and breaking up with my partner of 9 years. In these ending days each of us has a tremendous amount to grieve and having one loss resonates with other losses. This book has done more for my understanding of myself than almost any other I have read. Enter the healing ground and enter your self. I pass this book on to the elders in my seminars and all are enriched by it's depth and availability.
