Product Description

Product Description

Seminal techno album Enter has finally gotten the definitive reissue it deserves. First released in 1983, Cybotron’s debut LP has long been considered a landmark release in the storied history of Detroit music and an invaluable seed that sprouted countless branches of electronic dance music from House to Techno. Founded by visionary Vietnam veteran Rik Davis and teenaged future funk freak Juan Atkins, Cybotron combined a fondness for electronic gear as favored by groups like Kraftwerk and Yellow Magic Orchestra with a dark mlyricism that echoed the urban blight of Detroit and advanced prophetic environmental concerns. This long-overdue reissue has been carefully curated to satisfy the most discerning fans as well as provide an accessible entry point to one of the most influential electronic music releases ever. This edition features the original full-length album release, including the soughtafter initial mix of megahit “Clear,” replaced on earlier issues with its better known remix. That remix, sampled famously for Missy Elliot’s “Lose Control,” leads off the bonus tracks, a collection of singles, B-sides and alternate mixes that provide a compete picture of Cybotron’s enormously trend-setting style. The original artwork is supplemented by rare images plus a powerful essay by noted scribe Dave Tompkins (How To Wreck A Nice Beach) that explores the roots of the group’s sound.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the greatest of reissues 12 July 2014
By S
Format:Audio CD
This isn't the greatest of reissues. Track 5 is the House Mix of Cosmic Cars, not the original album version. Track 10 is listed as the "Detroit Style Mix" of Cosmic Cars, but it's just the House Mix repeated. The 2 instrumental tracks are in mono, not stereo. The version of Techno City is the 7" version, not the 12".

On a more positive note, the sound quality is decent and it doesn't sound like any of the tracks have been ripped from vinyl.

It's great that these reissues get released, don't get me wrong, but what most people want from them is this: -

1. All of the original album tracks as they were when the album was first released.
2. Good bonus tracks that don't just feel like padding.
3. Good sound quality, i.e. not vinyl rips.

This just misses the mark, so I'm giving it 3/5.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's not what is advertised. 8 Jan 2014

This is NOT a copy of the original vinyl LP. I have that, and this is a 'remix' and closer to the album 'Clear' which one of the original people did near the end ot the 80's and called as I said before, "CLEAR". It you are looking for the original album, you'll have to find it elsewhere, it may not even be found on Vinyl. This album is a remix, with MAJOR remixes of almost all the tracks. I'm going to have to set up my turntable and burn a copy of my original vinyl disc. I want a digital copy of the ORIGINAL ALBUM!
