5.0 out of 5 stars Rags to riches, 24 July 2009

The classic rags to riches story. Very down to earth. A really good read. The 12 rules for success at the end is a nice touch.

Not a bad book but would have been a lot better if it was more in depth about his lifestyle and business plans / deals.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, 1 Dec 2009
By Roberta Melnyk "Mom of twins" (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I don't think you can "transform your life" by reading this book. Theo's life evolved and was not necessarily planned to create greatness. He's a good sales guy who fell into opportunities. I found the anecdotes interesting at times, but other times he just rambled on and on about football. Perhaps a better read for a guy. His life story is colourful. But it's like reading a memoir whereas I wanted to read a business book with lots of business advice. That's what I'd expect from an entrepreneur who's been doing Dragon's Den for 5 seasons. His tale could have been better woven as a biography as opposed to an autobiography. The book is tailored to the masses so don't expect to be wowed by the writing. You won't gain any intellectual development from reading this book.

As a business person I enjoyed chapter 13 the most for the thought processes in reviving a business. I also liked chapter 21: business rules for the average joe. The rest of the book touted his family and business networking situations. Of course networking is an important business skill but I wasn't interested in reading all about it. And he doesn't give detail on Dragon's Den until the very end of the book. This could be a nice gift for a guy who likes to read but I'm looking forward to giving my copy away.
