Product Description

Deric Longden shares his life with a blind novelist, Aileen Armitage, and four cats: Thermal, Tigger, Frink and Arthur. Aileen rarely trips over the cats, but they are always in danger of being mistaken for a cardigan. This humorous look at the cats should appeal to all cat-lovers.

From the Back Cover

Throughout the 1990s Deric Longden has shared his life with a blind novelist, Aileen Armitage, and four cats: Thermal, Tigger, Frink and shabby old Arthur. And the cats have found that sharing a life with Aileen can be a very painful business. She hardly ever trips over them these days, but they are always in danger of being mistaken for a cardigan, or inadvertently locked in the cellar.

Ever since Thermal came in from the cold, Deric has seen his world increasingly taken over by cats. What with planning their menus, entertaining their friends, listening to their worries and observing their adventures, he has little time left over for his professional life as a writer. But there are rich rewards. One way or another, the cats in the Longden household are an endless source of interest and laughter.

Few writers have found so much enjoyment in the company of cats, and none has written better about their charm, and their fascinating range of personalities. Enough to Make a Cat Laugh will enchant cat-lovers everywhere, and give Longden-lovers an unforgettable treat.

A light hearted tale, (or should that be tail!)of an ordinary man, his wife and his family of eccentric cats. It's good to know I am not the only pet owner whose animals "talk". I would highly recommend Deric Longden's books to any one with a heart and a good sense of humour.

I came across this book by accident - I wish all my accidents were this good! Deric Longden has an easy, readable style that immediately pulls you into his wonderful world and keeps you turning the pages for more. Accutely observed, but gentle humour, concerning those that are deeply loved - not least his wife and tribe of cats. This is not a book to read in public if you worry about being stared at. It is the perfect cure for the 'doldrums', although this does not mean that there are not some poignant moments.
By this book - you won't regret it, and I bet you read it more than once!

I loved Deric's column in Your Cat magazine and, at the suggestion that this book would make good holiday reading, I took it on holiday. Each time I laughed out loud my room-mate asked me to 'read that bit out', so much so that she must know the book as well as I do! Deric wonders at his sanity as his cats speak in 'italics' and he understands that a look translates as 'you don't expect me to eat that, do you?'. I now find I talk to my own cats and they answer in a similar fashion! When I returned from my holiday I promptly went out and bought all his other books, each better than the one before!

Absolutely hysterical. I loved The Cat who came in from the Cold and this is the follow up. It's just as funny and I adore the way the cats order him around and answer him back. Read more
