Product Description

Product Description

Trevor works in IT, a bit of a geek, a bit of a loner, aimless, harmless. Little does he know he is the pawn (or perhaps the rook?) in a game of chess played out between Good and Evil. It is a game as old as Time itself, played out on a multitude of different dimensions, in the past, present and future - and all within the course of a week!

From the Author

I wanted to write a book about time travel and that special "ooooh" noise you make when, about ten minutes from the end of the film, or twelve and a half pages from the penultimate chapter, you realise the butler did it and the main character was his own brother-in-law ever since book two.

But, partially due to my own stubbornness, ignorance and fantastic hair, I decided to write the thing chronologically. Not chronologically following the character, but following time and their random jumps into it. Despite only being a 21 point score in scrabble, the chronological implications for such novel writing meant a lot of fun, a lot of crying and a lot of mistakes.

I also wanted to put pirates and dinosaurs in but you can't have everything.

Rather than spend hours fixing the errors and in-accuracies I was able to employ a writing technique commonly known as "Writing-it-in-and-pretending-it-was-a-feature".

Enlightenment is around 90,000 words and was written, in some form, over the course of three to four years. Some paragraphs are pinched from other unnamed random dribble I've written until it eventually came together as one glorious whole. Despite pretending it was all cleverly written, well planned and perfectly executed I have to admit I didn't have the faintest clue where the plot was going as I wrote it. Bits jump back and forth, my style changes throughout and I've read it so many times I often find myself finishing my own sentences.

But at the end of the day I have say I'm pleased with what was written. Sometimes I look back and cringe or wish I could re-write parts but if I did then it wouldn't be what it is. I'll also have to admit to re-reading bits and having a little giggle which I'm sure is incredibly egotistical but I am proud of what I've written.

a fantastic unearthed gem of a book. wasn't sure what to expect, but this book surpassed any expectations i had and actually had trouble putting it down! think hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, something different, but when pulled off well like this one, offers something far more than your standard genre book. strongly recommended!
