In the first of a progressive series of programmes Richard Davison sets out the fundamental principles of good dressage with the help of training pupils and his wife Gillian. Says Richard "Horses go as well as we ride them; Dressage is horse gymnastics and riders require self discipline and control - this may sound serious and it is but you can also have lots of laughs on the way" In the first programme in this series Richard concentrates on the rider's position and how the rider influences the horse's way of going. The programme is broken down into the following chapters: The Rider's Position The Seat Bones Correcting Positional Faults The Sitting Trot 'The Going on His Own' Exercise Response to the Rider's Leg Accepting the Bit Half Halt Riding a Circle Riding a Corner This is an easy to learn guide which everyone will find easy to watch and understand

Excellent! 25 July 2009
By Freespirit TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Whether you are a total novice or just want to improve your riding technique, you have to take a look at this. Using gentleness and sensible approaches, it takes you through the very basics of how to ride a horse from positioning in the saddle, how to balance, the walk, the sitting trot, the rising trot to slightly more advanced riding and how to 'communicate' and move your horse forward. The instructions are easy to understand, given in clear language and then the techniques demonstrated by real riders on real horses. The emphasis is on gentle techniques, horse welfare, which is a real boon to any poor horse who has been inadvertently whacked and 'kicked' by their novice riders whilst in the learning stages. My hat goes off to the patience and understanding of these wonderful and patient animals! An invaluable tool and as good as a horse riding lesson. One last thing, it is aimed at slightly older riders. Young riders would need something aimed specifically at their age group.

Enjoying dressage 15 Jan 2011
I find this DVD helpfull. Easy to understand the instructions. The calmness in both instructor, riders and horses are valuable.
