I have used this book at my primary school guitar club and have found it very useful indeed. It is not filled with 'threatening' musical terms which means that it can be used by non-musical adults to help children practise between lessons. I would suggest that anyone considering teaching guitar to beginners should take the time to consider this book.

This book is a great introduction to the guitar and music reading. It covers technical issues such as the right hand position and both rest and free strokes, as well as focusing on the left hand position. There are a wealth of simple yet attractive melodies to play to practice the new techniques. Some of which are recognisable and popular, others are composed by the author herself. This book served me well when I was learning and now I use it as a teaching material primarily for children who are beginning guitar from the age of 10.

A nicely bound and comprehensive book for those starting the guitar, it also has some quite complicated stuff, so should take the beginner pretty far before they need to upgrade. Basics such as 'Waltz' and general chord pieces, sit alongside 'Good King Wenceslas' and 'Tomorrow Shall be my Dancing Day'. There is also a practice register at the back, so you can log your progress.
