This book on the life of Jennifer Paterson seen through the eyes of her beloved friends and colleagues is a wonderful treat! Each chapter is written by a different person who packs their section with anecdotes and "Jenniferisms" and shares with the reader their memories of that unique and superb "Fat Lady". Contributions from the fantastic Clarissa Dickson Wright, Richard Ingrams and Ned Sherrin amongst others go towards making this a thoroughly enjoyable read. Wince-makingly honest accounts from some, very funny stories (some which are refered to in more than one chapter proves the validity of them!) and completely engrossing, it dispels myths and sets records straight. It presents Jennifer exactly as you would imagine her to have been. A fun-loving gregarious soul, a loyal friend, a kind-hearted Catholic and a larger than life personality long before she'd even hit our small screens, Jennifer Paterson was a person to cherish. This book (with a smattering of her renowned and delicious "Receipts" from her days at "The Spectator")like Jennifer herself should be treasured and whilst the excellent last chapter from A.N Wilson brought tears to my eyes, I finished the book even more in awe and fonder of Jennifer Paterson than ever. A must read for all fans of lovers of life, good company and great food!

As I said it is of course packed with luvvies fulsome praise, but it also offers a realistic glimpse of the real flesh and blood person. The last paragraph of the second tribute by one of her surviving brothers is interesting! You get a perspective on a person who after all became and still is for many a tele celebrity. Good read.

Great fun! 14 Nov. 2002

Ok, it's not War and Peace, but for all us who miss Jennifer Paterson or who never knew the range of her unconventionality from the TV show, this is a quick and delightful ride driven by those who knew and loved her. Loving testaments from those who fired her for throwing all the dishes out the window, those she insulted, those she cooked for, are published alongside photos from her birth to old age, and of her helmet being carried behind her coffin at her funeral . Let your hair down, pour a glass, and dig this one!

Disappointed!! 26 Feb. 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I was very disappointed in this book. It seems to have been rushed to press. It just mulls over the same things, what Jennifer's jobs were and her heavy drinking. There must have been more to this interesting lady. Wish it had been better. Maybe someone will write a better book about this woman.
