5.0 out of 5 stars The Circus Collection 19 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am so glad to see these wonderful books are back in print again and have enjoyed telling these fantastic stories to my own children. Jimmy Brown's father has lost his job and things look bleak until Mr Galliano's circus comes to their small town and he is offered work. Jimmy is delighted and more than happy to swop his house for a caravan and follow the circus wherever they go. These books are full of fantastic characters, as Jimmy makes new friends and is entranced by the magic of the ring.

I have to say that the racist content which seems to have caused such furore here relates to the name of one of the characters dogs and, although now considered unacceptable, was not so at the time of writing. Nor, to be fair to Enid Blyton, did she intend any racism by this word. I am indebted to Enid Blyton, whose books taught me to enjoy reading and who created so many magical worlds which my own children enjoy today. From the Enchanted Wood to the Famous Five, through Amelia Jane and Malory Towers, she has stood the test of time as a story teller.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any child 5 May 2014
By Shrub
My 9 year old daughter is a very good reader but I was yet to see her really gripped by a book to the extent that she truly couldn't wait to read the next chapter. I read these books with her because they were my favourite as a child and are a must for any child this age. She was gripped and literally begged me to keep reading she loved the stories so much. The stories are simple, imaginative and wonderful for children this age. So different from the books written today eg Wimpy Kid books etc. they are from an age long gone but still enjoyable to the modern children of today. I would highly recommend, indeed any Enid Blyton book is a wonderful read for a child. We are currently reading Willow Farm which she loves just as much.
