You don t have to know anything about hallmarks to use this book, it s been designed to be a visual index. The absolutely unique feature of this book is that it will indentify the first mark you need The City Mark. Illustrated city marks are all on the fore edge of its pages. So you just flick the pages to match a mark on your silver to its illustration in the book... from there its easy. The Jackson book uses a design where The City you need is presented as a Page Heading. So to use Jackson s book, you have first to know that the Anchor mark represents Birmingham or the Lion Head represents London etc. In Jackson, you need to know the City Name before you can look up its hallmarks system to date your silver.

I won't profess in any way to being an expert on any type of hallmarks.Indeed,this book wasn't purchased for myself.I have been reliably informed however that it is a very handy little book for identifying many hallmarks on jewellery that you may have had for years.

The complete guide to all British and Irish silver marking. Easy to use, this snall book gives a useful guide to all marks and fully addresses all marques of these collectable items.

This a very good basic little guide - no extraneous information, just a quick easy way to identify silver marks. Always accompanies me to auction sales.

Invaluable guide
This book is great when purchasing any silver. It is portable and covers all assay offices. It also has a range of makers marks as well. An asset to all silver collectors.
